With the Dragon Quest franchise being insanely popular in Japan, it was only a matter of time before publisher Square Enix formally announced that a collection of the series' earlier games is in the works. According to the official site, said collection will be released on the Wii and will contain all five past titles on one disk. The games in the collection are the original Famicom versions of Dragon Quest I, Dragon Quest II, and Dragon Quest III, and their respective Super Famicom (SNES) versions, specifically Dragon Quest I & II and Dragon Quest III.

The five games in the collection will be the original versions that can be played using the Wii Remote, Classic Controller, and the GameCube controller. This collection is to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the long-running series. Square Enix also added that it has sold 57 million units of the franchise's many titles as of December 2010 and that there will be more news on future developments for the anniversary.

The collection will be out in September in Japan. An English localized version has yet to be officially announced.
