Yet another Stephen King book is being turned into a movie. The Amazing Spider-Man writer James Vanderbilt will pen the screenplay an adaptation of King's The Long Walk, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Originally published by King in 1979 under a pseudonym, The Long Walk takes place in a dystopian America where 100 teenagers are forced each year to walk non-stop until only one remains alive.

The book focuses on a 16-year-old boy named Raymond Davis Garraty, but since no details on Vanderbilt's script are available, we don't know how the film may vary from the book.

Whatever the case, it's an intriguing concept--with the characters having to deal with physical and emotional stress and exhaustion, among other things. According to THR, Frank Darabont--who made the movie versions of Stephen King books The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption--was at one point involved in making a Long Walk movie before it fell apart.

As for Vanderbilt, he wrote both The Amazing Spider-Man movies and the action film White House Down. He went on to direct the Cate Blanchett-Robert Redford drama Truth in 2014, which was his directorial debut.

New Line Cinema, which was also behind King's killer clown movie It, is producing The Long Walk. There is no word yet on a release date, cast, or director, but keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.

Many of King's works have been adapted into movies and TV projects. 2017 alone saw the release of It, The Dark Tower, and Gerald's Game. For more on movies based on his books, check out GameSpot's ranking of the best Stephen King movies.
