Sony has been working on expanding its Spider-Man universe, and since it started working with Marvel, it seems like the franchise is moving in the right direction. A tweet from Exhibitor Relations stated that the first Spider-Man spin-off, Venom, will be coming to theaters on October 5, 2018.

Sony has a couple Spider-Man spin-offs planned, including Venom and Sinister Six, which were revealed in the infamous Sony hack back in 2015. Last year, reports came in that the Venom movie was moving forward with Dante Harper (Edge of Tomorrow) writing the script.

In addition, director Alex Kurtzman--director of the upcoming The Mummy reboot--will be at the helm of the Venom film. There is no news yet on the story for the upcoming film or if he will be introduced in this year's Spider-Man: Homecoming, which already has a sequel in the works.
