Jason Schwartzman (The Righteous Gemstones, Isle of Dogs) has joined the voice cast of Sony Pictures Animation sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Annecy International Animation Festival attendees were treated to this announcement, along with footage of the sequel that consisted of complete animation, in-progress work, and storyboards.

Among the scenes that were screened were Gwen Stacy helping take down The Vulture at New York's Guggenheim Museum, and Miles Morales running late to attend his parent-teacher meeting at school. As for the newcomer The Spot, whose secret identity is Dr. Jonathan Ohnn, the character is a relatively obscure villain dating back to mid-'80s comics and has faced off against Spider-Man and Daredevil. The character can open interdimensional portals, which he uses to travel long distances instantly and commit crimes. As you can see in the photo Sony shared below, Miles has a lot to learn about fighting The Spot--in trying to defensively kick him mid-air, he instead is kicking Spider-Gwen through a spot.

Schwartzman will be joining the announced voice cast of Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, and Oscar Isaac. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson based on a script by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Dave Callaham.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is scheduled to hit theaters on June 2, 2023.
