Mitsumi Electronics is introducing a 24x CD-ROM drive to market.

Mitsumi Electronics today announced the availability of the FX240 12X/24X CD-ROMDrive. The internal drive uses a combination of CLV and CAV modes to vary the spin rate between 12X and 24X, depending upon the needs of the application. The drive requires a 486SX/25 MHz or higher PC with 4 MB RAM (8 MB recommended), DOS 3.3 or Windows 3.1 or higher, and VGA or Super VGA graphics. The 24X drive is now available to OEMs and through general retail distribution. The MSRP is US$249.00, about $50 higher than the similar 24X Panasonic drive.
