On second thought, maybe it's not such a wacky idea....

Ripcord Games, which recently announced the release of Spec Ops: Rangers Lead the Way, has now announced a special promotion that comes packed with the game - or at least the first 60,000 copies.

Inside the boxes of those games, buyers will find a coupon good for a free "one day paintball experience" at any of the more than 200 paintball operations across the US. Spec Ops players who take Ripcord up on the offer (and regular paintball game participants) will be able to register for paintball guns, binoculars, knives, watches, sunglasses, and other gear.

Ripcord has partnered with Paintball USA, World Paintball Operations Federation, WARPIG Paintball Magazine, and the Swiss Army Company as part of this "Play the Game" promotion.

Ripcord says, "Designed as a two-fold program, this campaign introduces hundreds of thousands of paintball enthusiasts to Spec Ops as a way to bring the excitement of their favorite pastime home on their PCs. At the same time, it gives PC gamers the chance to get into field gear and immerse themselves into Spec Ops-style experience through a free paintball field admission."

OK, so maybe, just maybe, paintball and computer games could go together. Maybe....

Spec Ops sports a US$49.95 estimated retail price.
