Space Colony announced
Gathering announces that FireFly Studios is working on a space-community-building strategy game for the PC. First screens inside.
Gathering, a subsidiary of Take Two Interactive, has today announced that it will publish Space Colony for the PC. The game is currently in development at FireFly Studios, which has previously been responsible for Stronghold and Stronghold: Crusader, also published by Gathering.
"FireFly have already proved themselves as an innovative PC developer," said Graeme Struthers, vice president of Gathering. "Their ability to execute fresh ideas and deliver them to a high standard will ensure that Space Colony is one of our most inspiring titles this year."
In Space Colony, players will take control of a dysfunctional crew and will be challenged to build and maintain new colonies on some of the galaxy's most inhospitable planets. As they progress through the game, players will have to concern themselves with defending their colonies against aliens and, of course, making money. The resources available to players will vary from planet to planet, but options to make money in the game will include mining the planet's core, building a discotheque, and even capturing local inhabitants to create an alien zoo to attract tourists.
"Space Colony is proving to be a very exciting project for us," said Simon Bradbury, designer and programmer at FireFly Studios. "We truly feel that we have something fresh to offer the gamer. Combining a people sim with a builder in one game really is working for us. It's fun and it's funny--perfect!
Space Colony is currently scheduled for release in September. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
