Sovereign canceled

A story on CNNMoney has the first word that Sony Online has officially canceled development of Sovereign, an online real-time strategy game. Sovereign was under development for four and a half years and was designed to let up to 500 players fight over a single planet. It was to be a persistent-world game, and the conflict would continue even when players weren't online.

While Sony Online's attempt at online strategy gaming is over for the moment, its online action game, PlanetSide , is coming into the final stretch. According to the CNNMoney story, a public beta is planned to start in the coming weeks.
