Since the release of SoulCalibur: Broken Destiny in 2009, Namco Bandai has remained tight-lipped about the future of its weapon-based beat-'em-up. One of the reasons could be down to the PSP game's poor performance--it failed to make the publisher's top 10 sales list for April-September, being beaten by the likes of Afro Samurai and We Ski & Snowboard.

New characters and a generational shift are promised for SoulCalibur V.

SoulCalibur will be returning to home consoles next year, though, as publisher Namco Bandai has announced that the fifth game in the series will be coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. Project Soul team producer Hisaharu Tago took to the stage at the publisher's annual Level Up showcase event to reveal a "true sequel" for the fighting game series, set 17 years after the events of SoulCalibur IV. SoulCalibur V is due for release sometime in 2012.

Namco Bandai revealed a host of new titles at the Dubai showcase event, including Ace Combat 3D for the Nintendo 3DS, Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Impact for the PSP, and an untitled Dragon Ball Z project for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
