Mario, Luigi, and Peach may have stood up to Bowser, but they can't stop Barbie. The Margot Robbie-starring film will officially become the biggest movie of the year in the US today with over $574.2 million earned. That means it will jump over The Super Mario Bros. Movie at the domestic box office.

Deadline reports this could be the first time Warner Bros. is behind the top-grossing movie of the year domestically since 2011 with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. The only competition remaining in 2023 seems to be another Warner Bros. flick with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Disney's The Marvels.

For comparison's sake, Barbie will haul in over $574.2 million domestically in just 34 days versus The Super Mario Bros. Movie's 138 days. Earlier this year, The Super Mario Bros. Movie became just the 10th animated film to make $1 billion worldwide.

Barbie has also crossed the $1 billion mark, with director Greta Gerwig now holding the record for high-grossing film helmed by a woman. The movie still sits behind Mario worldwide but has a good chance to overtake the animated flick in the coming weeks.

This past weekend, Blue Beetle stood atop the domestic box office with $25.4 million. But even so, that marked one of the slowest starts ever for a DC superhero movie.
