Sorrent puts Ren & Stimpy on the line

Mobile gamemaker nabs license from Spike TV; Sprint first carrier to add new title to game deck.

Sorrent made its name in the mobile beat back in 2001, when longtime Madden lead producer Scott Orr departed EA Tiburon and formed the mobile-only startup. Not too surprisingly, the company established itself as one of the leading developers and publishers of sports titles for the new medium. (On the company's current roster of games are eight Fox Sports-branded sports titles.)

This week, the company took a giant step away from the sports beat and announced two major license grabs. The first was the acquisition of a multi-title agreement with Spike TV to develop mobile games around the Ren & Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon intellectual property (IP). The first title, Ren & Stimpy Pinball, was revealed yesterday. Currently, the title is only available to Sprint PCS subscribers.

Buried in the news of that deal was additional information that Sorrent intended to create mobile titles around the EverGirl IP, a Nickelodeon-owned property. Nickelodeon and Spike TV are both Viacom brands.

Orr, it should be noted, is no longer with Sorrent.
