Sony Teases Metal Gear Rising 2 -- Report [UPDATE]

Kojima Productions shoots down the rumor.

Update:

Ken-ichiro Imaizumi, a senior producer at Metal Gear series developer Kojima Productions, says that the number "2" in the in the sizzle reel from the 2015 Taipei Games Show is not teasing a Metal Gear Rising sequel.

Imaizumi said he doesn't know what the number "2" stands for. "Sounds like it just a countdown number '2.' It's [Sony Computer Entertainment] made trailer."

The original story follows below:

It looks like Metal Gear Rising: Revengence, the character action game spun off from the Metal Gear series, might be getting a sequel.

The news comes from the 2015 Taipei Game Show, where during a sizzle reel of PlayStation 4 games, the number two, stylized like the Metal Gear Rising logo, appeared for only a second. It appeared specifically during a short clip showing off the PS4 exclusive third-person shooter The Order: 1886. As the character was counting down, the Rising tease flashed on the screen when she said two. You can find the exact moment in this Twitch steam at the 2:46:33 mark.

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima was at the show, but he didn't discuss Metal Gear Rising. However, looking at his Twitter account, Kojima has been meeting Metal Gear Rising and Bayonetta 2 developer Platinum games lately, most recently in December 14, 2014, when he met with Platinum President and CEO Tatsuya Minami.

Is it a confirmation? Far from it. It's a very subtle tease at best, but one that does seem to fit Metal Gear and Kojima's sensibility.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengence was released in 2013, and featured Raiden, the protagonist of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, instead of of Snake, and fast-paced action and an innovative slicing mechanic instead of stealth. GameSpot's review gave it an 8/10.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain launches in 2015 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. A PC version of the open-world game is also in the works, but Konami has not announced a release date for it.

Regardless of the short-game content represented in MGRR, this game is considered, in my point of view, one of the greatest adventurous game with interesting gaming combat/OST.

I really enjoyed this game much in PC ver., and I hope the developer shows us something new particularity in "sword mode combat".

MG Rising on PC was damn good. I would not hesitate to throw $50 for a sequel and MGS 5 :)

I would love MGR2.

But they have to fix the camera, make the character faster with better dodge moves and more main weapons.

MGRR was really fantastic and caught me by surprise with its quality. Too bad it was rather short and the story wrapped up rather fast but for what it was it delivered on all fronts.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> That's your opinion. Quite honestly, i thought the music was amazing as it matched the pace and style of combat.

The story, at least from my perspective wasn't supposed to be serious......except for the rivalry between Sam and Raiden and the blood thirst of Raiden towards the mayor. I actually found many moments to be funny and clearly inspired by Kojima lol. The game was MUCH longer than 5 hours for me. I played the game in normal and like many; I had a tough time with some of the bosses thus requiring me to polish up my combat. If you have the PC version, DLC is free thus you can play as Wolf and Sam (not sure about Sam, didn't play either yet). The abilities and weapons you can unlock are amazing and easy to get after you beat the game in normal. The battle system is among the best in action RPGs......Easily a 9/10 in my book.

Maybe a challenging fast paced action game isn't for ya. Another COD noob i assume? If not, then go play something else....MG Rising is no doubt a game most gamers should take a good look at..

The first one was awesome but it was not worth sixty dollars. If they make a sequel, it better be thirty to forty hours long because the best games drag on forever with forced padding everywhere.

No but seriously, a sequel would be awesome. These kind of action games are my favorite. Every minute is action packed and there's no part where I was like "how much longer is this segment going to last?". Same thing with Vanquish, my favorite game of the PS3/360 generation. These are day one purchases for me, so I'm hoping the rumor is true.

I would love a sequel. Only thing wrong with MGR:R was its length, and even then I can forgive that flaw considering every minute was adrenaline filled action with amazing gameplay.

The first Metal Gear Rising was a pretty good action game, no doubt. Problem is that it was way too short, like only 5 hours with 2 hours of it being cut scenes and I would pay full retail price for it if of course it is good. When it launched, the full retail price of 60 bucks was not worth it, I don't care how good of an action game it was. When I was able to get it for 20 bucks, I picked it up and glad I did. I'm hoping a sequel will be much longer, at least 10 hours of actual gameplay plus whatever cut scenes. They also need to improve the hit/collision detection so I don't feel like I'm just slicing through air(it's not that bad, I'm exaggerating). Its not like an elder scrolls game, but for a dedicated action game, that needs to be improved. I would rate the first game a 8/10 without the length being a factor.

Edit- And I forgot to add...I would also like more crazy, intense, super sized bosses. I like taking down a giant boss, 10-20x the size of my character. I feel so bad ass when I do lol.

If this really is an a teasing of a second MGR, hope it doesn't become exclusive to Sony's console. Really enjoyed the first one on PC.

PC is also getting MGS 5 so I'm sure this will as well.

<< LINK REMOVED >> The story was seen as a disgrace to the MG franchise. Kojima himself doesn't even consider it a part of the official MG timeline stating that it is just "Platinum Games' interpretation of the Metal gear story". So although the gameplay was fun, don't think of it as a Metal Gear game. If there is to be a sequel, it'll either be a complete remake, a prequel (like Kojima initially wanted) or it'll be set completely outside of the Metal Gear franchise so to avoid any confusion.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Its an awesome action game that's very well balanced and a lot of fun. Personally, the only flaw I saw was its length, and even then its a double edged sword. Its short for those that only want to go through it once, but its a perfect length for those that love to play it again and again for additional unlockables, more difficulties and attaining rankings.

All in all, its a great game.

<< LINK REMOVED >> It's phenomenal while it lasts. It's extremely short, but it left me wanting more to the point that I not only played the extra campaigns, but also beat the main campaign two additional times on harder difficulties.

MGR is the best spectacle fighter out there for me (haven't played Bayonneta though). I've replayed just today Sam's dlc, just love taunting enemies and slashing them to bits. I would love if this were true and we'd get like a prequel to Sam's story.
