Sony targeting PlanetSide 2 'scumbag' cheaters

This game is doomed because of the hacks. I certainly don't play it anymore when people are sniping me with pistols. Someone using one of these hacks can wipe out 10+ people in matter of seconds. TOO many players are starting the use these hacks and articles like this one are encouraging MORE people to seek them out, people that didn't even know they existed in the first place.

It's free to play.. banning accounts does nothing because they can just create as many new accounts with fake details as they want. Eventually the guides will come with the hacks on how to make your real IP address undetectable, it's already extremely easy to do. With the hacks they can unlock everything again so quickly that it's just all fun and games to them.

Free To Play is this game's downfall and the only way to beat the hackers is to join them. So make your choice; start using the hacks or stop playing the game because the hacks are the only way you can compete on any kind of serious level.

Leaderboards during beta were bugged. Never showed my correct kills. Many of those at the "top" of the beta boards had maybe 70 kills but because they were bugged they reported it as 7000.

I was just playing Blops 2 zombie mode online and discovered someone had hacked that online session. Impossible situations with what appears to be unlimited ammo. Hackers are a different breed of gamers. They get joy out of putting out the illusion that their actually a lot better then they really are. No skill required.

I hope so because it has become the new normal for cheaters to be the winners in some online games.

Why doesn't Sony just have separate servers one for unranked fun(hacker friends goofing) and the other for ranked that has strictly enforced rules? Then people could hack the game like in the glory days(N64) with out harassing other players.

In a game like this you need this attitude towards the cheaters. It breaks the game pure and simple and will make many people quit if its allowed to continue. Things like punkbuster need to improve and get better so every company can just buy and use it to stop cheaters without needing a big team devoted to it.

Im sure that hacker isnt going to just create a new account or anything like that. It's a bit odd to agressivly pursue bans for hackers in a f2p game, sure break the hacks but bans seem like a waste of time and resources to me. It does make for some good PR though.

Developpers urgently need to create new programming methods that make hacking harder to do. I am not a programmer but I think this is possible to prevent hacking better. Right now, a game gets released and there are already hacks on the second day. It is ridiculous.

Kudos for not only banning people, but for genuinely looking like a human being who cares about the game rather than a faceless corporation giving vague pseudo-aggression.

to deal with hackers i think the devs and networks on even consoles should have a kill switch routine that activates as soon as it is compromised and have a encrypted bullet go to thier hacking device and disable it permanently, i know people who didnt pay there cable bill could have this bullet sent to there device and have it blacked out till programming is restored to it, i would start doing that with my technology to fight back if i could, ruin their hacking device for them trying to hack into your device and ruin yours, being the game or system.

AWESOME SMEDLEY, about time some one called them out directly like that, maybe Sony can data mine the hackers as well and have charges put up on there AZZs. im tired of hackers and their bullshyt, i really hope these people start getting round up and sent to jail for a time, people can goto jail for straling a candy bar, why let these people get away with digital theft. Get em Sony!!

Maybe this is Sony trying to hit back at the hackers after what happened to PSN last year, Good on them i hope Sony wins.

I honestly haven't seen that many hackers in this game... the biggest problem I see is that a massive portion of the game's user base doesn't know how to attack objectives, and instead just run around guns blazing or camping out an unimportant spot like they're playing CoD on a massive map with vehicles.

They're best off making a tutorial so that players actually know what to do.

this could really invite 'Anonymous' attacks once again, and by that time, more free game :D

While I do think he should do everything in his power to stop hackers from doing whatever they are trying to do, provoking them doesn't seem like a good idea.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but, wasn't it the boastful claims that "nothing could invade the PSN" that caused the hackers to start that major PSN outtage in 2011?

Thats very good I hate cheaters, though i haven't seen or noticed someone cheating in Planetside 2.

Seriously though, why can't the hackers just piss off? It's bad enough that they cheat, but they force the developers to devote resources away from improving and patching the game, just to figure out ways to properly ban them... selfish pricks, no matter how you look at it.

Alas, one of the threats F2P games face is the increased presence of hackers. Unlike a paid game, a free to play player loses virtually nothing when caught. I hope SOE will succeed.

It's great to see Devs destroy cheaters like this.

Now just Infinityward and Treyarch need to do the same thing,oh yeah that's right they could care less cause they don't have conscious about people hacking.All they love is money and they could care less about all the PC users that play the game too.If your game you make is mostly flaunted on the console then stay away from the pc don't even make it for us if you do nothing to help us out for the hackers.

Has to be consistent and it has to be LONG TERM. If Smedley is doing this to just garner a sort term boost to what people think, then it won't last long. I applaud the admission and the attempt if legit and as said long term.

I just wish DICE / EA would be a little more vigilant towards Battlefield 3. I recently started it up again, and it's virtualy unplayable. I have never seen so many people using aimbot in a game. Out of curiosity, I look up the "advantages" of downloading an aimbot. Have a look;

I mean, how are you really suppose to have a good time playing when you run into people using garbage like this? The answer is you can't. It;s pretty sad, really.

It's always nice to read about developers going after hackers / cheaters.

Hackers have genitals the size of a cashew nut.

If online gaming has taught me anything, it's that hackers will eventually win. Every time.

Hack-preventing requires constant vigilance, and a time will come for every game in which the invigilators will just get fed up and move on.

Props to Sony for striving to keep a fun gaming atmosphere.

As sad as it is, the Hackers will probably "win" in the end... but props to Sony for trying. I really hope they succeed, but I just don't think they will.
