Sony registers The Last of Us movie domains
Sony Pictures registers domain names suggesting film adaptation of Naughty Dog's postapocalyptic PlayStation 3 game may be in the works.
Sony has registered a pair of domain names that suggest a film adaptation of Naughty Dog's celebrated PlayStation 3 post apocalyptic action game The Last of Us may be in the works.
On November 25, Sony Pictures registered the domains TheLastOfUsMovie.net and TheLastOfUs-Movie.com through brand protection agency MarkMonitor.
Sony has not announced a film based on The Last of Us. Though a film adaptation of the game might seem appropriate given its character-driven nature, it is possible that Sony registered the domain names simply to protect its brand.
The Last of Us has shipped 3.4 million copies since its launch in June exclusively on PS3. The game's first story-based expansion--called Left Behind--releases in early 2014.
The Last of Us is not the first Naughty Dog franchise eyed for the big-screen. A film based on the Uncharted series has been in the works for years. Most recently, Superbad and Pineapple Express writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg said Sony is "constantly" asking them to work on the film. The status of that film, which at one time had The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook director David O. Russell attached, is unknown.
