Sony pulls v2.40 firmware, denies full retro-trophy support

Well I'm glad I got the patch before they pulled it off. Not to mention it fully worked for me, hurrah! I love this update though.

agirlyman reread my post first I was talking to a MS fanboy if you look at the older post you would get what I am talking about. Also I'm not going to go thorugh all the points of why the 360 has more games I was just saying that sony did not copy these features and the 360 has been out longer and that is why it has more games. also your point is pretty much the same as mine game developers were use to programing on DVDs when the PS3 came out with blu ray yes it was somthing to get use to but dvds been out since the PS2. Well this time do you get what I am saying instead of making a fool out of your self.

lol sony cant get anything right these days. but then again, there hasnt been an interesting game for the 360 since gta4.. I suppose its gonna end like this, before we move to another generation of consoles, PS3 will dominate the 360 cuz sony has more developers and all the japanese games are made for sony, not for mgs. Overall in the past 6 months all the coolest games were either multi platform or ps3 only. and since the ps3 is also a bluray player... its over.

hordaak it just makes people like bill gates who are more well off,more better off.yeah in the UK we have a recession as well through the mortgage thing but spending your cash on a 360 is wasting when there are more pressing things like food and necessities to buy.trust me in the past 3 months i have only bought 1 game and 1 CD.cause you need to put your money elsewhere.and also watch the news the credit crunch is hitting everywhere including Japan and the PSN is a good service.games like Resistance and COD4 flow well cause developers are going the extra bit to make sure that the PS3 gamers are having a good time as well. its more about devs getting off their asses.

HotRod you noob, 360 has more games not just because it came out first. Another reason is companies had to learn how to develop games on blu ray, that took awhile, and drove other companies away who didn't want to spend the time or money learning how to make games for the ps3. 360 was the easiest, and basically wasn't much different than making games for the xbox. I would have to think ps2 to ps3 was a steeper learning curve for alot of people. PS3 is a great systems, but needs more must have games, and needs a better online network. Thats an easy fix too, just use "Xbox live" as a reference point.

@rasterror u noob people asked for these feathers. also what games does 360 have Hal0 3 (which I hated but thats just me) , Gears of war, Gears of War 2, and mass effect cant say bio shock since its coming to PS3. also the only reason the 360 has more games is the simple fact that it been out longer. Maybe this is why I stay with PC gaming to much fan boys

ona December 2007 60gb version and its working fine with me...just that game developers sld send patches so i can listen to my own musics while playing.

I started thinking that people complaining about this PS3 update problem might be Xbox 360 Fans-boys. Coz, since I updated my on console (PS3), I have never had any glitch of problem and I have more than 80 friend that did the same thing without problem.

wonder when uncharted will get trophies...?

I can't wait to get back to America and on my PS3 so I can get online and check this out. First, I need a new wifi thingy to get online. 2nd, the update needs to be fixed and rereleased.

I think you guys all need to calm down..... you would want you "LIVE" service to be good since you HAVE to pay to go online, I am happy with any update Sony continue to present to us for free online.... It seems like the SOFTFANBoys are almost pleased about this.... Haha oh well mines fine. It also comes down to the publishers servers which ones they decide to use, you cant tell me all Xbox servers are Soft run?

EPIC SONY FAIL.

I'm looking forward to Home as much as the next PS3 owner but I'm not sure how much people will wanna walk around in a Second Life rip-off instead of actually playing a game. The only other problem is when it is going to be released. It's been pushed back three times. It better be fricking amazing when it comes out if it is taking this long. I really hope it does amaze me though.

Apparently, the majority of you have no freakin clue about programming. Now, I am not an expert but its not easy. I have taken a C course and a C++ course so I know a little bit about how it is. This is from experience, make a small mistake in the code that you wrote (and my code was typically 200 to 500 lines) and BOOM! 400 ERRORS! So, first you have to sort through every little error that it tells you there is. Look through all those lines of code. Then finally, when you find the error, it was something simple like a misspelled word, forgetting to add a semicolon at the end of a line of code, etc. Well, when you fix it, 100 more errors pop up just because you fixed it and some lines of code under that was reading correctly from that line of code. Don't even get me started on logic errors. Those errors are undetectible (unless you catch it when you do it) by the compiler. SO.... you don't even know there is a problem until you run it. Then it does something freaky. And since logic errors are hard to find, you could spend hours just trying to find your mistake. Yes, Sony maybe should have tested it on a larger scale. Maybe 100 or so random systems before they put it up. It was a mistake, but it may have run perfect on the systems that they did test it on. Take that into account. I am happy with my PS3. I don't really care if its OS isnt quite that of the 360. But this whole deal about the PS3's online play being terrible is complete BS. I have lag-free play on my PS3 the vast majority of the time. The network has hiccups sometimes but that's usually due to the host's connection. It's not as bad as a hardware design flaw. Since its software, it can be patched. With hardware (and yes I am speaking of the 360), you have to start all over. IMO, a complete recall should have been done on the original 360 model. They talk about how big the PS3 is and all, but at least it has room to breath. I will sacrifice space for efficiency any day. And one more thing. You say the PS3's OS/features can't match up to the 360's. One word.... HOME!

Someone once said that PS3 likes to play follow the leader, i guess this proves it. Now i know i just teased your PS3, but i think it's a fine console, i just don't like how everyone's like it's better! just because it cost more. I haven't found anyone to prove why it's better, and please don't say blu ray because that doesn't do anything to games. 360's achievement's are alot of fun because you have something to do after you finish the game or spent one or two matchs with your best friends. I don't like how PS3 would put one in after this long, they may have realised how well it's going for 360. If they wanted to be a complete success with this, then they would of put it in at the start, if anything, this probably won't make people reeled into the PS3, i must say.

i agree with loucetios. i have a 360 and the achievements definitely make certain games a little more enjoyable. for instance i would never have tried for the 100% in gta4 without the achievement. and also about ninja gaiden 2 i agree that the achievements suck but it doesn't really have anything to do with trophies because it's the developers choice and the ps3 could have trophies that are just as stupid.

What? Gamespot needs to rework their subtitles. When they said "sony pulling v2.40 firmware, i thought they meant they were releasing another patch to sort of remove some of the in-game XMB functionality,because of too much memory or something. But of course, all it is is "no not every game will have retroactive trophies. That's just dumb to me.

halosniper52 its not that i can't do without a trophy makig me its just why would i do that normally? Its better than the ninja gaiden 2 achievements giving u achievements everytime u use a ninpo for the frst time

The only reason i care about the trophies is because i want Metal Gear to have them, and I would like to see how the trophy looks in Home.

I downloaded it, but I haven't had any issues with it. Neither has my friend that downloaded it.

Sigh. I was here yesterday, and nothings changed. Fanboys from both sides going at hammer & tongs. Oh, and about 300 more posts of people saying they've downloaded it with no problems. I'm cringing to think what would happen if Sony's next update does the same thing. Every post would be CAPS LOCK with the fanboys at each others throats again. I'm checking in again on Monday to see if anythings changed( pigs might fly).

halosniper52 how r they weak? Don't remember trying to hold 20 bombs in arcade mode without a trophy making me do it, or surviving 45 secs in survival without shooting anything, i like the trophies, they make me do things i normallly woudln't think to do during the game

I just got 2.40 and i must say its pretty nice. But the trophy's just don't really do it for me I mean I like that Sony put something in like achievements but these trophy's just don't do it for me. I hope to see Sony do something more with them don't really know what but it needs something They are just weak.

Not really sure why trophies are such a big deal. Without HOME, there kinda worthless.

Can anybody just appreciate that the PS3 is getting a much needed update instead of turning this into a PS3 vs 360 argument? I swear, I can't even scroll down 3 comments without seeing a rant in all caps about why one system is better than the other...

twisted Obviously u hate the 360 that's apparent but for all your ranting and raving the fact reminds that PSN is not on par with XBL and it doesn't have the same features, but that's not to say it won't improve, and I have had XBL since 11/01 when at started and the only time I experienced lag is when someone has a bad connection and guess what happens they usually get drop from the game. Now Resistance has dedciated servers is because it's Sony servers all other developers have to supply their own servers and if they don't want to put the resources toward online they leave it out like on Virtua Fighters. So stop acting like PS3 is gonna save the world, it's a machine built by man and guess what machines break go over yourself

Dude soldier352 I agree. Fanboys are hilarious. Anyway, PSO doesn't have a single friends list instead of a different one in each game, doesn't have cross game invites, private chat, and just got in game dashboard or "XMB." All very basic functions that the 360 has had for 3 years now. And by the way typing in all caps doesn't help your point get across any better.

Dude, twistedhades. First, there's no need for all caps. Second both consoles have lag at some points in some games, not just 360.

adding on to what bastila19 said, its also only $50 for 13 months (1 year + 1 month for you slow folk), not $70
