Sony Closing All Its Stores in Canada

Sony is retreating in Canada because the purchasing power of an average Canadian is abysmal. Why waste resources in a country where people do not spend ? Don't let their seat on the G8 fool you. Truth be told the gap between the haves and have-nots is epically out of proportions here in the North East. Canada spends too much on medical care (which is a good thing!) and we are too down to earth to give a care but only on things that are considered necessities.

Trust me, Canadians. Sony is doing you a favor. Sorry about the Target though.

They REALLY need to restructure their electronics divisions. Sony still thinks they are the most premium brand on the market, with the best products, and therefore demands a premium price-tag for everything.

Samsung & LG & even Vizio have been blowin Sony's doors off. They sell more feature-rich products for hundreds less. Sony Electronics needs to wake up and realize it's not 1990 anymore and get with the program.

And they wonder why they're bleeding money? They gotta get those old-school Japanese execs out because they're living in the past and dragging the whole company down with them.

I'm not talking about the PS4. I'm talking about the division that makes their TV's, Blu-Ray players ect...

Sony just rekindled the Walkman again and decided it required a price tag of $1,200!!! That's the type of $hit I'm talking about. Top of the line Smartphones, that offer more functionality than just a media player, cost HALF that at full retail price.

They need restructuring, but it's the guys at the top that need to be restructured.

Closing these stores will help the company bigtime. Those things were pointless.

Not surprised at all. I've seen 1 sony store in the last 5 years here in the states. There is just no point when all your products are being bought online or at best buy.

Sony must really be in Trouble

I understand SONY leaving Canada. Though it was a coincidence that it came immediately after Target and several other retailer announcements. Anyway kinda sad, though they never really had good prices on their products (17k$ tv for example).

Good move, cutting losses and investing in what matters and what sells.

Sony desperately grasping for air....

I knew Sony would be the focal point bit Target doing the same as well. Must have more to do with Canada if another major retailer closing all it's stores as well.

Target announced its shutting down all its stores in Canada as well, two years and more than $1 billion after it first opened in the country. Target said it was "unable to find a realistic scenario that would get Target Canada to profitability until at 2021.

Oh damn.

So Sony fanboys are spinning this as Sony returning to global dominance, Xbox fanboys are visualizing a personified Sony taking a bullet to the head and falling backwards into its own casket, while most of us are like 'meh, can it play games?'

I am Canadian, I can tell you that no one goes into a Sony store anymore. The prices are marked up much higher than "Best Buy or Future Shop"... There is no need for Sony to have retail brick & mortar any longer.

Good move by Sony, sell your products through other retailers.
