Ben Schwartz will apparently voice Sonic the Hedgehog in the upcoming movie about the rodent who runs really fast. Sources told Variety that Schwartz will take on the role, and the actor has since confirmed the report with his own tweet.

"I. Love. 90s. Blue. Iconic. Characters.," Schwartz wrote. "I am beyond excited about this movie. It's gonna be amazing. I have been training by running, wagging my finger, and impatiently tapping my foot. Gotta go fast!"

If true, Schwartz will join a cast that already includes Jim Carrey, James Marsden, and Tika Sumpter. Carrey just recently confirmed he will play the evil Robotnik, while Marsden will apparently take on the role of Sonic's friend. It's unknown who Sumpter will portray.

Schwartz has done prominent voicework before, as he voices Dewey Duck for Disney's new Duck Tales show and Rutabaga Rabitowitz on Bojack Horseman. The actor played Jean-Ralphio on Parks & Recreation and more recently starred in the Netflix movie Happy Anniversary.

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie, which will mix CG and live-action, is due to hit theaters in November 2019. It is currently filming in parts of Canada.

The film is directed by Jeff Fowler, whose 2005 animated movie Gopher Broke was nominated for an Oscar. Deadpool 1 director Tim Miller is producing.
