Now Playing: Sega Has Lots Of Sonic News For 2020 - GS News Update

Sonic's dash to theaters has hit a few speed bumps--most notably the uproar over his original design, which caused a delay and a completely redesigned (and much better looking) Sonic.

Sonic the Hedgehog is expected to post pretty strong opening weekend numbers, with estimates ranging from $40-47 million. Though numbers in that range would place it below last year's video game adaptation hit, Detective Pikachu, it would mean Sonic the Hedgehog would snag the second highest opening weekend for a video game adaptation.

The movie's delay may have fixed the Sonic you'll see in theaters, but the ghost of the original design still lingers in some of the official movie merch. Even the adorable Baby Sonic looks like a mix between new and old in plush form.
