If there's one trait Sonic the Hedgehog lacks, it's patience. Despite that, patience is now the keyword for Sega's mascot, as the publisher has delayed the downloadable debut of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 from this summer to late 2010.

Maybe now Sonic can slow it down a bit.
Maybe now Sonic can slow it down a bit.

In a post on the official Sonic blog, a Sega representative said the delay was imposed "to ensure that Sonic 4: Episode 1 is a game worthy of bearing the weight of its name." The post also notes that the extra development time is allowing the publisher to incorporate fan feedback into the final game.

In addition to the delay, Sega announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is also in development for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The game had already been confirmed for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii.

While diehard fans have often pleaded for a new 2D installment in the Sonic series, the publisher has for years pursued 3D projects and spin-offs. Recently, the series incorporated gameplay revolving around transmogrification in Sonic Unleashed. The iconic hedgehog also tried out high-speed driving skills in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and character progression in the BioWare-developed DS role-playing game Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.

I had high hopes for this title but now I am not so feedback? Sonic team NOW you listen to us? when did you decide to listen to us? when you added horrible horrible characters, level design, bestiality, or just delivered bad games?

For fan feed back huh? Well sega, heres some feedback. Make Sonic's legs spin more instead of making them spin if he only runs down a hill. I've been watching the leaked videos and I barely see the legs spin.

This sucks, I was really looking forward to the new/old Sonic. Oh well, as long as this game is good I guess its not that big of a deal.

Well at least their trying to make it good.....I guess. This is sega's like 4th reboot of the series and they have all sucked. So I'm not to optimistic. I hope they make a good one but won't be surprised if the don't.

I'm not too mad. The leaks pretty much showed what the game would be like. I hope this delay will make the game even more epic. Hopefully, there won't be anymore delays and hopefully there won't be anymore leaks. On the good side, I can save up my money a little bit. :)

They probably knew that judging from the fan reaction to the trailer, it would not sell well, that's why they specified the 'fan feedback' part. Sega somehow managed to make Sonic run in a way that makes him look slow...

Question is, will Sonic 4 work with the solid touch pad controls of the iPhone?

Sega caring about the quality of the final product? Has hell finally frozen over?

"The post also notes that the extra development time is allowing the publisher to incorporate fan feedback into the final game." This looks promising. But the mysterious fourth platform is the iPhone/iPod Touch? REALLY?! >_>

Sega/Dimps might as well give it up; they'll never be able to make a game that will satisfy the people still living in their Genesis.

STUPID LEAKS!!! I HATE YOU!! Now this summer is going to be a little boring without Sonic. :(

While they're at it they should also scrap this whole "episodic" bullcrap.. what an overpriced annoying pain in the *** that industry trend has been so far.

As long as they make the game play old school, maybe with a homing attack twist, then this game is going to be Sonic's best game in years, well minus parts of Sonic Unleashed, and the Sonic Adventures.

well that sucks. i was hoping to play that soon... oh well, just gotta wait. but i hope sega doesnt do what nintendo did with Brawl, cuz that game got delayed and delayed and delayed!

Avatar image for Chickan_117

Oh well. At least it's a short delay and will make the game better :) Not sure exactly when Summer is (I wish people would use month's instead, not everyone lives in the US) but it won't be far away :D
