Today, Sonic returns to his 2D platforming roots with Sonic Superstars. The new game pairs the fast side-scrolling action of classic Sonic titles with a 2.5D art style, new powers, and an all-new story and setting.

Sonic Superstars is available now on all platforms, but PC players can snag the Blue Blur's latest outing at a discount at Fanatical. With this deal, Sonic Superstars standard edition is just $52.19 (normally $60), while the Deluxe edition is down to $60.89 (from $70). Both editions will be delivered instantly as Steam keys. The Deluxe edition comes with some extra DLC and digital goodies, including:

  • Lego Fun Pack
  • Sonic Rabbit Skin
  • Mech Parts for Battle Mode
  • Bonus Main Menu Wallpapers
  • Digital Artbook
  • Mini Original Soundtrack

Purchasing Sonic Superstars at Fanatical also gets you a 5%-off coupon code to use on a future Fanatical purchase.

After Sonic Frontiers experimented with open-world Sonic gameplay, Sonic Superstars is a fresh return to the classic side-scrolling formula. Sonic is joined by his familiar pals Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and the all-new character Trip, who team up to take down series villains Dr. Eggman and Fang the Hunter. Sonic and his friends are all playable solo, in local co-op modes with up to four players, or in the online battle mode for up to eight players.

Sonic Superstars is available now on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One. It's actually the second side-scrolling Sonic release of the year. Sonic Origins Plus, which compiles remastered versions of the first four Sonic games, launched on consoles and PC this past summer.

If you're picking up Sonic Superstars on Nintendo Switch, you should check out the brand-new Sonic-themed Hori Split Pad Compact controller that's up for grabs at Amazon.
