This week's Penny Arcade Expo won't go by without a handful of announcements and reveals. In addition to the debut of Portal lead Kim Swift's new title at Airtight Games, the show will serve as a coming-out event for Sonic CD.

Amy and Metal Sonic did not hit it off.

The news comes by way of Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb's company blog. According to the Xbox Live director of programming, Microsoft will be showing Sonic CD at its PAX Prime 2011 booth alongside other Xbox Live Arcade titles, such as Trials Evolution, Skulls of the Shogun, Crimson Alliance, Splatters, Orcs Must Die, and others.

Major Nelson offered no other explanation on the heretofore unannounced title. Sonic CD debuted in 1993 but has been rarely rereleased since then. The game's only other console appearance came as part of the Sonic Gems Collection for the GameCube and PlayStation 2 in 2005. The game saw the titular hedgehog attempting to rescue his companion, Amy, from the clutches of Dr. Robotnik and his latest nefarious machination, Metal Sonic.

GameSpot will be on hand at PAX Prime 2011 to provide more information on Sonic CD as it becomes available.
