Colleen O’Shaughnessey, who voices Miles "Tails" Prower in the Sonic the Hedgehog video games, will voice the character in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie sequel. She made the announcement on Twitter.

"Taking my old pal Tails for another adventure. Thrilled to announce I’m the voice of Miles 'Tails' Prower in Sonic Movie 2! Can't wait for y'all to see him on the big screen," O’Shaughnessey said.

The Sonic movie Twitter account replied, "Woo hoo! Best. News. EVER!" Jeff Fowler, who directed the 2020 film and is coming back for the sequel, added, "Welcome back Colleen! We could not be more lucky to have you!!"

O’Shaughnessey is also known for voicing roles on Digimon Adventures, Naruto, and Danny Phantom, among others. Netflix's new Sonic TV series has a different actor playing Tails, and some people were worried that O’Shaughnessey might be finished with the part, but she said on Twitter in February, "Tails and I aren’t finished, yet." We now know that was likely a reference to the Sonic movie sequel.

In other news, Ben Schwartz will return to voice Sonic again, while James Marsden and Tika Sumpter will come back as Tom and Maddie. Jim Carrey is set to return as well as Dr. Robotnik. Idris Elba will play Knuckles. The movie opens on April 8, and the official description can be seen below (via Collider).

"After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation. But no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search of an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands."

Sonic the movie was released in February 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic took hold. It made more than $319 million worldwide at the box office.
