Soldier of Fortune II, GTAIII shoot to the top

Virtual violence makes a comeback as Activision's gory shooter sequel takes the lead on NPD's latest weekly list of best-selling PC games, followed by Take-Two's urban action game.

Activision's latest action game, Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix, has taken the lead on NPD Techworld's latest weekly list of best-selling PC games. The gory first-person shooter, which made its debut on last week's list in fourth place, lets players assume the role of a military consultant working for a top-secret agency on a series of bloody missions. The Sims: Vacation, Electronic Arts' latest expansion for the wildly popular virtual-life game The Sims, came in third, followed by The Sims itself in fourth. Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, LucasArts' Star Wars action game, dropped from second place to fifth place at the end of its second month in stores.
