The Snowpiercer TV adaptation will be getting a third season, with TNT announcing the season order just days ahead of the premiere of Season 2 on January 25. The first season of the Snowpiercer series was the most-watched program when it launched last May, and TNT's biggest success since 2018's The Alienist.

Season 2 is set to continue the story of the post-apocalyptic train, following on from the revelations (and sneak peek teaser) that ended Season 1. The biggest change the new season brings is the addition of Sean Bean, who will be playing the train's creator, mastermind, and leader, Mr. Wilford.

The second season will follow the fallout of the train's revolution, with Daveed Diggs' Layton emerging as a leader and Jennifer Connelly's Melanie doing her best to protect the train from a returned Mr Wilford. Another newly introduced character is Melanie's daughter Alexandra, played by Rowan Blanchard.

While details of the greenlit third season haven't yet been revealed, fans of the series can be sure that Season 2 won't be the end of the Snowpiercer story. Showrunner Graeme Manson previously indicated that he hoped for "five or six" seasons with the same cast, and beyond that there was potential to branch out into new stories "in a different time, on a different train, or with a different cast."
