Snowpiercer TV Series Happening On TNT With Star-Studded Cast

Snowpiercer starring Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs? Don't mind if we do.

Get ready to see a lot more Snowpiercer. The 2013 science fiction film directed by Bong Joon-ho is being turned into a TV show on TNT. The cable network has ordered a 10-episode series based on the film and has already lined up some big names to star.

Leading the cast are Jennifer Connelly (Alita: Battle Angel) and Daveed Diggs (Hamilton), as the series explores a world that has become a frozen wasteland. Those that have survived the deep freeze live on a gigantic train that circles the globe while never stopping.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles scribe Josh Friedman penned the pilot script, with Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson stepping in to helm the first episode. At this point, a showrunner for the series has not been named.

"I'm a personal fan of Bong Joon-ho's epic film, and jumped at the chance to honor his original vision, yet expand upon the world and characters with a diverse, award-winning cast," TNT's executive vice president of original programming, Sarah Aubrey, says. "Science fiction is the perfect genre to examine issues of race, class, gender and natural resources with thought-provoking and exciting storytelling. Snowpiercer will explore those relevant issues while embarking on a wild, action-filled ride."

Reacting to the news on Twitter, Derrickson says, "I will say this about Snowpiercer - the all-female key crew was the best I've ever worked with, and the entire ensemble cast is just astonishing. Very proud of the show we made."

In its 2013 theatrical release, the Snowpiercer film--which starred Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton--earned $86.6 million at the box office. A release date for the TV series has not been announced.
