SNES Classic Edition Pre-orders Available Right Now In The US [UPDATE: SOLD OUT]

Here's your chance to secure one.

Update: Sure enough, the SNES Classic has sold out. We'll report back as other retailers bring their SNES Classic pre-orders online, though keep in mind we don't yet know how soon those will be coming.

Original Story: The Super NES Classic Edition is available for pre-order right now in the United States. You can place an order through Walmart's website, but hurry--it's possible they will sell out quickly.

The micro console was announced In June and a round of pre-orders became available in Europe soon after. However, there has been frustratingly little word on how or when those in the US would be able to pre-order. If you miss out on this Walmart availability--or simply prefer to shop elsewhere--it seems likely that other retailers will offer pre-orders prior to the system's release on September 29.

No Caption Provided

For $80, the SNES Classic includes a total of 21 of the Super Nintendo's best games. One of those games is Star Fox 2, a title that was never officially released to the public. You can see all of the SNES Classic games here.

Last year's NES Classic Edition was notoriously difficult to come by. It sold out well in advance of its launch, and additional shipments were gone virtually the second they became available. This resulted in prices skyrocketing on the secondhand market. Nintendo ultimately discontinued the system before demand could be satisfied--a situation that many fear will also be the case with the SNES Classic. Nintendo has already said its current plans are only to offer the system until the end of 2017, but it claims it will offer "significantly more" units this time around.

@risingdawn: A Pi would be cheaper and let you use original controllers or any Bluetooth, plus connect a USB retrode for original carts

@girlusocrazy:

Yeah but it feels better playing Nintendo games on a Nintendo console ;)

Plus you get to play off screen on the pad when the tv is in use.

And I doubt you could play Game Cube, Wii and Wii U games on a Pi. With Wii U you get every Nintendo game and console ever made all rolled into one, grab yourself a 3DS and you have the handhelds covered too.

Now if only Switch could match that but I doubt you will ever be able to play Wii and Wii U games on CFW but who know.

@risingdawn: 100% agreed, I use the original systems on an XRGB or CRT. Only reason I want the SNES Classic is StarFox 2. Even Nintendo's NES Classic falls way short of the real deal. But you can't really get the final StarFox 2 on an original cartridge so I have no other option for that. Closest is a repro with a non-final patched up version which according to the developer is far from the final version and missing stuff.

Meh. I was thinking of getting one, but if it's sold out, that's ok. Only thing that interested me was Starfox 2, so I'm not forking my money over to scalpers. Besides, if it turns out to be a complete version, I'm sure someone will "share" it with us. As a man of honor, if Nintendo does decide to release this standalone, I'll gladly buy it from them or an official distributor.

@Veemon_X: Right on. When I can stroll into a store and casually buy one the way I can amiibos, 3ds, and the original SNES in 93 I'll buy one. Nintendo is making their bed with this and I refuse to lay in it.

@Veemon_X: This is just the first run. The other stores haven't made their pre-orders available yet. There will be batches available in the future. Just sign up for notifications on all websites and check your phone/email regularly. You'll get one if you stay vigilant!

@JustPlainLucas: I guess I'll try that. I actually did sign up for alerts from Amazon, but they never sent me an alert. Perhaps Best Buy or Gamestop would be interested in selling one to me.

First let me say that love when the M&M ad starts auto playing and in my panic to shut it off, I click it and then end up going to the M&M website, like that's a place I really want to hang out at. JFC. "Yeah, I used to peruse Gamespot but then I accidentally ended up here at M&M.com and man, I really love it. The community is great. Just asking but uh, can you get diabetes from a website?"

I still own my SNES from 91. It's sitting right beside one of my broken Wii's that is modded to the hilt with emulators and ROMS. My SNES and N64 still work. Two Wii's do not. That's why I decided to homebrew one of them. Now I can play hundreds of SNES, NES, Genesis etc games. Not buying one of these things for exactly that reason. I'll just look to the left when I'm playing the SNES ROMS and feel all fuzzy inside.

It would be nice if Nintendo was to release retro game packs on the Switch. I would gladly pay for a Retro SNES pack of games on the Switch. I have no interest in a physical system for retro games.

I stayed up late last night and seen a popup on my Windows 10 PC that had the Pre-Order. That was at 11:31pm EST. I ordered mine from Wal-Mart within 2 minutes from receiving it. I don't understand why they sent it out so late but i just got lucky! I only ordered 1, i am not a stinking scalper........i hate scalpers.

@ecwecw1: Your order is going to be cancelled. The preorder was a mistake and Walmart is correcting it.

And this is why I pre-ordered it from the UK. Yeah it was $20 more but at least I have one. So sick of Nintendo and how they put a shortage on a high demand product and then scalpers buy them all and charge 2x or 3x the price to get it.

Sorry everyone. You can blame me for the shortage because I pre-ordered 6027 SNES Classics without intending to pay for any of them.
