More episodes of Activision's Skylanders show, Skylanders Academy, are on the way. The publisher announced today that Netflix has renewed the animated show for a third season to premiere in 2018.

Production on the new season will begin this month. As was the case for Seasons 1 and 2, the French production company TeamTO (Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, Rabbids Invasion) will develop the episodes alongside Activision Blizzard Studios.

"Activision Blizzard Studios celebrates the opportunity to bring another season of quality programming to families around the world," Activision Blizzard Studios co-president Nick van Dyk said in a statement. "We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Netflix on this iconic franchise."

The renewal order comes before the premiere of Skylanders Academy Season 2, which is scheduled for later this year. Activision also confirmed today that The Guild and Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress Felicia Day is joining the cast for Season 2, voicing the character Cynder. Metallica's James Hetfield and Oscar winning actress Susan Sarandon also join the cast for Season 2.

Dodgeball's Justin Long voices Spyro, while other voice talent includes Norm Macdonald (Saturday Night Live), Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad), and Ashley Tisdale (The Suite Life).

Skylanders Academy is the first production from Activision Blizzard Studios. The unit is responsible for spinning the company's franchises into TV shows and movies; multiple Call of Duty films are on the way.
