Six More Xbox One Backwards Compatible Games Now Available

Saints Row: The Third joins the list.

Whether you're looking for a break from Destiny 2, not enamored with this week's new Xbox One games, or simply want to boot up an older game, today's a good day. Following a period with few new games added, Microsoft has announced several more additions to the Xbox One's backwards compatibility library.

A total of six Xbox 360 games have been added to the list today, although one of these, Virtual-On, is only supported in Japan. For those elsewhere in the world, there's still plenty to check out, including Saints Row: The Third, arguably the best game in the series; horror game Slender: The Arrival; arcade classic Super Contra; Monopoly Deal, a fast-paced adaptation of the board game; and Undertow, which was offered as a freebie back in 2008 following extended Xbox Live issues.

No Caption Provided

All of these games are now playable on Xbox One. If you already own them, you can either pop in the disc or browse to the Ready to Download area of the My Games and Apps section to download it. Alternatively, you can buy them straight from the Xbox Store and start playing.

These are the first new backwards compatible games since last month, when several Walking Dead games were made playable on Xbox One. For a full roundup, check out our full list of Xbox One backwards compatible games.

@xspartanx3x: I'm assuming there's a lot of legal stuff they have to get through with those (THQ, Deep Silver, licensing of music, etc).

Maybe tales of vesparias dead. Xbox and ps share same eccosystem under amd can't believe they do not like money.

Saints row one was the best(cramming all your car's out side of your house with the music playing from each car.)

Oh glad it's nostalgic because replaying pasty games doesn't age well.

@lorddaggeroff: That's (also) the thing, these old(er), emulated(?!), games... They should cost, like, $2-3 right?!?? Not sure how much they're charging, but probably more than that?..

@TheArcade: Try changing your xbox one region to Japan. That should make it appear on the "ready to install" list. Once installed you can go back to your region.

@kgb: Yes! The thing is that only the games available in the current region of your console are shown in the ready to install list. If you bought some games and then changed to another region that they're unavailable you can only download them by changing your console region. Since they're listed in your account they'll appear and you be able to install it. That's really good because you won't lose any game if you change your account region.

Saints Row 2 was easily the best in the series, Saints The 3rd was good, but moved the series away from what it started out as.

@alaannn: That is true. At a time when Saints Row was........ serious before it became comical. For SR3, the first stage (the airplane stage iirc) was the best level in the game before it all went downhill.

I have the 'Saints Row Thirds - Full Package' version of the game which comes on two discs with all the DLC etc - but can't work out how to download the extra content on my Xbox One.

Anybody have the same issues ? or a solution... DLC usually show up in 'Ready to install'

Cheers

Saints Row: The Third was "arguably the best game in the series"? Could I get the argument for that, please? I highly disagree.

First, no Johnny Gat - hands down one of the best allies of all time. He was the right amount of funny, badass, and flawed, and he only gets a brief moment in the third game.

Second, the missions - aside from a handful of missions, your "story" involves just doing side quests (or "activities" as they're called). Cyber Blazing, Professor Genki's television show, Trafficking (protecting people as they sell your merchandise). It was the opposite of GTAIV - where GTAIV went incredibly serious, Saints Row went incredibly silly.

Third, the "storyline" was simply you bringing yourself back to power - but not exactly through ownership, but through brand recognition. You're building yourself up as a label, rather than the gang you originally were.

No, I highly disagree with the Third being the best, by far. Go back and play Saints Row 2 - where each gang has a story arch that can be played in any order, where there are moments that are actually engaging and leave you wanting to take out your enemies as a personal vendetta (remember what happens to Aisha in SR2?), rather than just leaving you feeling like you're doing silly side stunts like a part of some $4.99 mobile game.

TL;DR:
The majority of Saints Row: The Third was simply made of "filler" side quests and overly hollow stereotypes. Was it fun? Yes, but "arguably the best" is a funnier statement than anything actually found in the game.

Also, this clip from SR2 is simply too badass: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBSg2F53nZQ

@SkytheWiz1: saint's row 2 was good and all but it felt like the first game with not much added and the driving was arguably to much loose i can barely touch the stick and the car would be all over the place the. Third game fixed that and had more to offer

Saints Row The Third was an awesome game, and the Saints Row game that I have had the most fun with. I have beat the story part 3 times already, but I just might go a forth time now.

@Gary_Stanton: Yup!.. There aren't many (if any) reasons that ALL games shouldn't be available.
