Sims 3 official

Latest version of Will Wright's phenomenally successful franchise coming to the PC in 2009.

Earlier this month, a teaser site popped up on the Internet promising that more information on The Sims 3 would be coming on March 19. Well, D-Day has come, and Electronic Arts has made it official: The Sims 3 is indeed en route.

The third stand-alone game in the Sims series will feature a new engine, which EA has been slaving away at for three years, and the biggest new feature will be the ability to seamlessly move around an open neighbourhood.

Previous games in the Sims series were expanded by packs such as The Sims: Hot Date, and The Sims: Vacation, which let gamers take their sims on holiday or into town with a beau, for example, but these communal zones were always separate from sims' abodes.

In the next game, the sims will be able to walk freely around their neighbourhoods, visit their pals, and venture to new locations such as City Hall and the local park.

There will also be a "deeper" system for governing how sims behave, called the Realistic Personality System, which will let gamers manipulate five character traits when creating their sims. This opens up a number of possibilities, or as EA puts it: "Will you create the nosy, inappropriate, kleptomaniac grandmother who loves to meddle in other people's business? Or the commitment-phobic, hot-headed punk rocker whose rude nature and childish disposition keeps him from scoring a date?" Apparently, 700 million different combinations await.

Customising both the sims themselves and the items around them will also become an easier and deeper experience, EA says. The upgrades include fine tuning for every part of sims' faces, and a new set of design tools for customising items for their houses.

The first Sims game was released in 2000, and since then the series has sold some 98 million games worldwide, and has been translated into 22 different languages.

The Sims 3 is being developed by Electronic Arts Redwood Shores and will be shipping worldwide on the PC in 2009. There is no mention of it coming to any console platforms.

I never bought a single expansion for the Sims 2 and yet my wife and I enjoyed it for many months (heck, we'd probably still be playing it if the disc didn't accidentally get cracked). I expect to do the same with the Sims 3.

They should invent a system where you can play offline but most importantly choose to enter the "real world", so you can meet and talk to people like second life but better and free. Second life is just too wierd, sims is purely for fun, we dont get anything out of it.

Glad to see the Sims still going!

It's so sad to see the PC gaming shelves covered with every freakin sims title but then that's life. DS and Wii shelves are full of sugary kids titles and xbox360+ps3 shelves seem to share the glory of mature gaming. Sims 4 should have tomorrow's ultrarealistic 3D engine and you get to roam around your world, fly to other countries, taste and smell, and yes even die. oh wait...

The Sims dominates the aussie pc retail market. bloody heck... i'm so sick of it.

Don't worry. I have researched this game alot and it is being released in very early 2009. Prior to the official website, , the game was set to be released in late 2008!

I can't wait to get hold of this game! Free roaming environment is like a dream come true. I always wanted to visit "that" neighbors home, which I was playing as another save game!

This is awsome, I think the best part about it, obviously is the continuing streaming neighberohood. So that should cut out some annoying loading screens lol.

Avatar image for ganga_

I'm really looking forward to it. Hope they make a good AI.

@CiceroXIII: The main thing about casual gamers is that they play games CASUALLY, as in not often. If you've ever met proper fans of The Sims gamesl, you'll know that they don't play The Sims as a diversion. Some of them have been playing it 3-5 hours daily for a good 4 or 5 years now. I still think that arguing about graphics in a game which isn't based around graphics at all is a little bit weird, but, if you've ever been to the website and talked to the fans there, you would know that there are plenty of people who know perfectly well how to update their machines.

will be a cool game, wonder if you can produce 3 sets of identical twins??? start your own football team!

Avatar image for zenhawx

I can't wait to get my hands on Sims 3.

Avatar image for Edward1211

Totally agree with CiceroXIII. I wouldn't mind if the graphics were still the same as Sims 2. It's all about the gameplay in The Sims. I hope the flesh out the online better in this game.

I can't believe people are debating the graphics in a Sims game. Part of the appeal of the series is that a casual gamer can play the games on a computer that is designed for email and word processing. Very few Sims fans are going to update their systems to play this. In fact, most of them probably wouldn't know the first thing ABOUT upgrading their systems. And that is okay, because the Sims is not about graphical prowess and it never has been. If you have an ultra-powerful machine and want a game that looks like Crysis... go play Crysis.

I hope it results really good. I'll be waiting for it.

Avatar image for nikhilva

YeaH! Im Waiting to get m hands on it!

Omerta some poeple have crappy internet in the developed world, 256/512kbps connections are considered broadband where i live which is barely a step above dial up. They have cable and DSL2+ here aswell but plenty of housewife Sims2 players will not have that type of bandwidth.

Avatar image for quietguy

I *bleep* knew it that they were going to do a successor after the successes of Sims 2. The least they can do is put in spectacular lighting and add a little bit of light ambience to make it really shine.

'So they're giving you around 800 MBs of content in the expansions. That would take forever to download on even a high speed internet source' are you from some third world country or something or is half an hour forever for you? u really know what you are talking about dont you

Avatar image for dodow1234

sounds GREAT!!!!!!!!!

Avatar image for dylankay94

oh my fukin god yay, i love sims

Avatar image for DarkspineSonic0

Man... I never thought that they could make The Sims 2 better... but here it is... and I'm gonna get it... MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Avatar image for Dieyetagain

How about all of you stop complaining. Wait for THE AWESOME Sims 3 game to come out, and stop having fights on the internet......fights on the internet is like a paralympics running race. If you win your still a retard

Avatar image for Babak2005

I hope EA will add intel and wisdom to the sims because they are ( SIMS ) so stupid and don't know what they are doing and you should always keep an eye on every sim to not doing anything wrong like eating dirty food or burned food ..... something like that and you guys keep the rest of it.

Once again, DUH the graphics suck. They just started the actual game after working 3 years on the engine and they're still probably tweaking it. So they're using place holder textures from Sims 2 until they can create high res textures. So please stop insulting the graphics, you don't know what you're talking about. Those won't be the final textures. "They do have to make money but some of those expansion packs could of got thrown into a content update to throw a little back to the community." Not to be rude or anything, but you obviously don't understand how these things work. It costs a lot of money to generate these packs and stuff. I mean, they already do make some things that are free. I personally think they should do more, but they don't. So they're giving you around 800 MBs of content in the expansions. That would take forever to download on even a high speed internet source, plus it would clog up servers, so they'd have to charge for it anyway to maintain servers. So putting it on a CD and selling it is the most practical thing to do.

omg this is really milking the sims-cow dry

Avatar image for B4ttered

@ Kevinketavet This is EA were talking about here... Sims 3 is looking great though. Come on EA, show me you can be good again.

Avatar image for GtheMVP

Graphics still blow large chunks evilziggy. Screenshots at this stage of preview should look better then what they will be, which all devs seem to do *cough* Army of two * cough*, to make their game look better. As for appealing to a large number of machines, that's what settings are for. Don't make excuses for this 2004 look, it's shameful! Game will still rock though, which is all that matters, but c'mon, graphics blow!!!!

Avatar image for THERSOfi

Awesome news, but I'm not a huge fan of the cartoon look.

Avatar image for BboyMasochist

Hey guys. Look at the screens... Celings. o_o

Avatar image for AwA-soldier

Avatar image for evilziggy

Anyone **** about how the graphics suck needs to kill themselves now. First of all, this isn't a final version. Second of all, The Sims is a bestselling series. It would be against EA's best interests to make the game graphics intensive. If they appeal to a larger number of machines, they will sell more. Sometimes I wonder how you mouth-breathers are smart enough to keep breathing.

Avatar image for snowyjoe

I always thought the sims 3 and sim city 6 would be a combined game. Making your City then making your sims live in it. I guess there is still lots of time for this feature to be announced (if they have one) Btw, the game just got announced, the graphics will get better, they're still making the game for crying out load :P

Avatar image for spyoftheworld

Oh Yaaaa, I think it will be awesome the new Ideas About neighbourhoods is very good I love The sims too much and i have the last one free time

Avatar image for nem1

looks pretty good, the graphics are okay, and they probably will get alot better before it comes out. should be pretty good though

Avatar image for nerotoxen

Yay hopefully this brings my pc to its knees then I can convince the wifey to let me upgrade finally!

Avatar image for O_oGuilhermeo_O

I really enjoy The sims, i play it since the first one. But i have to tell u mans XD Im disapointed with the sims 3, The graphics look very ugly!!! Specially today that we have CRYSIS, and another great titles with great graphics. I hope they improve until the release. But we all know that just graphics dont make a good game, u play a game for having fun or just stand watching it??? auhauhahuahua sry for bad english

Avatar image for Last_Ride

The Sims usually target the mainstream users who doesn't have high-end graphic cards but a little improvement on the graphics should at least be done...

Avatar image for SapenNamen

Creative said: ""Customising both the sims themselves . . ." unless it's written in Simolian, it's "customizing". " Unless they're speaking English. Crack a dictionary from a country that speaks the language properly before you start getting smart. America has spent centuries deliberately making arbitrary and pointless changes to spelling and grammar but most of the English speaking world doesn't bow down to the American spelling.

Avatar image for mayur-ruyam
