Sid Meier, the director of Sid Meier's Pirates!, Sid Meier's Railroads!, and Sid Meier's Gettysburg! has a memoir coming out later this year--and, of course, it's named Sid Meier's Memoir!. Meier, who is best known for the Civilization series, has worked in games since 1982.

The memoir will, according to its official site, tell "the story of an obsessive young computer enthusiast who helped launch a multibillion-dollar industry." Meier will recount how he started Microprose, his original company (which is still going today), and started the Civilization franchise. He's also the founder of Firaxis Games, which handles the XCOM franchise.

Meier, who famously coined the descriptive term as games as "a series of interesting decisions," will delve into his perspective on both the industry and the people who play games, and share some rules for good game design.

Funnily enough, a quote about Meier on the sales page, describing him as "our Hitchcock, our Spielberg, our Ellington," is attributed to GameSpot--although the article it is pulling from is no longer online (it's archived here).

Sid Meier's Memoir!: A Life in Computer Games will be available on September 8. It's available for pre-order now.
