TDK Mediactive has announced that its upcoming game based on DreamWorks Pictures' animated comedy film Shrek is scheduled for release this fall. Shrek is TDK's debut game for the Microsoft Xbox, and it is one of the first Xbox games to be based on a movie license. The movie Shrek uses advanced computer animation, and it is scheduled to open in theaters on May 18, 2001.

Both TDK and Microsoft are enthusiastic about both the upcoming Shrek game and the Xbox console. "The Xbox graphics are absolutely top-notch," said Vincent Bitetti, chief executive officer of TDK Mediactive. "They take full advantage of the advanced capabilities of the Xbox and provide a seamless transition from the feature film to the video game."

J Allard, general manager for the Xbox platform, added, "We have seen this game at mid-production, and it is very clear that the fundamentals of a great game are all there. We are very excited about Shrek because it is a great example of what Xbox can do."

Shrek for the Xbox will feature four distinct worlds, 12 levels, and 36 missions for a total of around 80 hours of gameplay. It will use real-time rendered cutscenes to introduce each mission, and it will include the same style of offbeat humor featured in the movie.
