The final project from the studio formerly known as Secret Level will receive a posthumous release this week, as Iron Man 2 ushers in a huge May of new releases.

Arriving in stores May 4, Iron Man 2 won't be a note-for-note adaptation of the big-budget feature film launching just a few days later. While the game takes its visual style from the big screen, it will feature more nods to the character's comic book roots, including an original story involving the Crimson Dynamo, Ultimo, and the bucket-headed criminal organization AIM.

The week's only other multiplatform launch won't actually be appearing in stores at all, as Activision and Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package add-on arrives on the PlayStation 3 and PC. Released on the Xbox 360 at the end of March, the $15 Stimulus Package was an instant success, as gamers downloaded it more than 2.5 million times in its debut week. The add-on from controversy-plagued Infinity Ward includes three new multiplayer maps and two updated arenas from the original Modern Warfare.

Crimson Dynamo will be Iron Man's biggest opponent since rust.
Crimson Dynamo will be Iron Man's biggest opponent since rust.

Handheld fans are receiving a handful of notable new releases for the week as well. PSP gamers hungry for some team-based multiplayer action can pick up Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake, while DS owners have the option of SouthPeak's adventure horror game Dementium II or Nintendo's decidedly less scary puzzler Picross 3D.

Regardless, all of the above games could easily be overshadowed by the launch of the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta. Running from May 3 to May 19, the beta program will allow players to try out a variety of new play types and features. At the same time, those gamers will be getting an advance look at Bungie's final Halo project for the foreseeable future, as the developer this week announced a 10-year deal with Activision to publish and distribute games using the studio's as-yet-unannounced new intellectual property.

For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later in the week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

Nothing for me this week... whaaat? I don't have a 360!

Avatar image for CrimsonMaher

@-John_Connor-: I get what your saying man and no harm done ;) as I said I don't have a 360 thus Splinter Cell and Perfect Dark are out of my reach anyway. International releases differ from one place to another and although as a PS3 owner I have the advantage of no regional lock down the North American releases we get are still a lot less than the European ones and even those don't always come out on time. Still no complaining here I like drought months, gives me a chance to catch up on the games I missed during the crowded November to March season! There are a lot of games coming out May and June which I am interested in so its always good to save up :D

I can pass on this week's releases, but the rest of the month is going to be full of some tough choices between Lost Planet 2, Alan Wake, Mario Galaxy 2, Trauma Team, Prince of Persia, Red Dead Redemption, but I probably don't have to think too hard about Rocket Night on XBLA since it'll be cheap enough and since Rocket Night Adventures was one of my favorite Genesis games.

I played the beta for 10 minutes and almost threw my controller because of the dumb weapons. The BR is replaced by a slow shooting sack of garbage that is no fun at all.

Going to be playing the beta all week

Avatar image for muppen

Waiting for Alan Wake...only 11 more days! :D

Avatar image for -John_Connor-

@CrimsonMaher- You forgot about Splinter Cell: Conviction, lol. I wasn't offended by your post. I was just showing that there have been many high profile releases in the last two months. As far as playing RE5 when it came out: The DLC episodes are excellent additions and add several hours as they warrant multiple playthroughs. As far as tastes in sports games: No problem there. Hardly anyone living outside of North America can be bothered to follow MLB and NFL, lol. The real game drought starts here in the US next month. After Alan Wake and Blur we literally are only getting one title a month worth purchasing across all three platforms for June through August. I don't follow the international release dates so your original comment makes more sense now!

@diesil The Campaign Disc

Avatar image for SavoyPrime

@The_crapgamer - Iron Man only outsold Mag and Heavy Rain sells if you count the fact that Iron Man came out on every platform available (PS2, Wii, PSP, DS, PS3, and 360). If you just count PS3 and 360 sales, then that would be a no. Heavy Rain is almost at 1.2 million sold while MAG is at 780,000.

Avatar image for diesil

can someone tell me if its on the campaign disc or the multiplayer disc????

Avatar image for Flint247

The Beta is NOW available via Halo 3 ODST Disc.

Avatar image for Flint247

I am ready for Battle! :D

Avatar image for mrzero1982pt2

it(the beta) IS STILL NOT UP!!!

Avatar image for The_crapgamer

It wont matter how bad Iron Man 2 game will be, people will still buy it. Fact is more people bought Iron Man 1 then MAG and Heavy Rain put together.

Avatar image for Flint247

I am going to speak positive now and say it: Halo Reach will be one of the best games of 2010. And there's nothing you can do to change my opinion. :P

Avatar image for bondfan2

when can you get in the beta

Avatar image for mariostar0001

How wonderful. Five semi-new maps for $15, despite the fact that any owner of said game has at least 20 maps already. Want to know why it's called the stimulus package? It's stimulus for Activision. :x

Avatar image for StJimmy15

*sigh* just waiting for the Beta to go live... Any bets on how bad the Iron Man game will be? (Not that I don't want it to be good, but c'mon, my movie-game delusions of grandeur died with terminator salvation.)

Avatar image for The_crapgamer

Halo Reach Beta, I'm thinking a lot of people went out and bought Halo ODST last week to get into the beta.Halo Reach is going to be the BIGGEST game of the year and I cant wait.

Avatar image for CrimsonMaher

@-John_Connor-: Dude I don't have a 360, GOWIII, Yakuza 3 and Heavy Rain came out in March (at least where I am), I played RE5 when it came out. Which leaves us with SSFIV which won't come out till next month where I am and MLB and Tecmo Bowl are sports I don't care for. After Burner Climax is the only game left and I don't think we can consider it THE hit of the decade. On another note, why were you offended by what I said exactly?

Avatar image for Trogeton

Excellent titles this month

Avatar image for -John_Connor-

@CrimsonMaher- Drought, huh? I suppose that Splinter Cell: Conviction, Super Street Fighter IV, Yakuza 3, God Of War III and MLB 10: The Show were all figments of my imagination along with awesome DLC for Left 4 Dead 2, Resident Evil 5 and Heavy Rain. Perfect Dark, After Burner Climax and Tecmo Bowl Throwback were nothing special either, just a few fantastic remakes of timeless classics. Nothing special there... Oh yeah, that drought in March and April was so tough, lol.

Avatar image for eal-zubieri

good games are going to be released this month:)

Avatar image for cajunstrike

Next week's headline will undoubtedly be the stateside black Wii release on May 9.

WOW talk about a total drought! Since March I only bought FIFA World Cup 2010! Oh well gives me time to catch up on some of the older releases. Isn't it curious how not a single game website has released a review for Iron Man 2? Are they being paid to hold out on it till the release??? Even IGN who usually post reviews 2 weeks before a game launch haven't reviewed it yet! @xSlugox: Thank you! I wish more gamers were like you than game companies would stop making crap and marketing it as "the greatest entertainment event in history"

I actually have high hopes for the Iron Man 2 game. I know most movie-to-game adaptions suck, but there is the Rare Exception every now and then. Just look at Spider-Man 2. That was the most Awesome Spider-Man game ever made. Iron-Man 2 looks like it improved gameplay across the board in every way since the first one. I'm at least gonna rent it and try it out before I pass judgement.

Avatar image for Jawehawk-DK

@Taylor9124 You are very misinformed. Yes Activision sucks, but IW ere the ones making the game. IW are the ones that "beeped" the game up. They are the ones that decided on no dedicated servers, and lots of OP and UP weapons/killstreaks/perks in MP. IW is just as terrible as Activision.

Avatar image for firehawk998

Ok as a xbox 360 owner and one of the few people who didnt buy the Map Pack and unfornunately experienced it at a friends house, let me give a warning to PS3 and PC owners dont buy the map pack for $15. It is not worth it.

Avatar image for Sparta316

lol...I bought the original modern warfare for the same price as the map pack.

Avatar image for badtaker

lol No PC game this week

Avatar image for coolkid93

Iron Man 2 eh? Ok the first one sucked so why even make another? Who knows though, it could be btter than the last one.

Avatar image for Taylor9124

@xSlugox The only reason MW2 sucked is because of Activision. They had control over when the game needed to be released, which caused IW, a great team of people, to rush a game that wasn't finished. Blame Activision, not IW.

Avatar image for soulless4now

No good releases this week, I see.

Avatar image for spencerdean94

need patches not map packs activision get it right sniper rifles dont stick out of walls HALO REACH wonder if this will be the last.....

Avatar image for Flint247

Off to bed, going to enjoy some Halo Reach Beta tomorrow! :D :D :D :D

Avatar image for luniac99

well, like some of you have said, i hope halo: reach isnt just the same game again. need something new...AND longer than odst LOL

Avatar image for monson21502

glad i bought 2 copies halo 3 odst at a pawn shop for 12 bucks each late last year. now would be a good time to sell it on ebay. prolly get at least 30 for it. thats 6 bucks profit plus free beta fun:)

Avatar image for thrasher510

halo reach doesnt ship

Avatar image for monson21502

how does a halo reach beta ship this week?

Avatar image for Flint247

@xSlugox I totally agree about MW2 being garbage. Possibly the worst game of the decade. I definitely did not see anything new or special about it. It was just "hype".

Avatar image for jwzy13

wow i hope that picture of ironman isnt ironman 2 the game. thats terrible

Avatar image for xSlugox

IW's hard work? rush release a busted up game and hasn't done any patching to fix anything? consumers wondering why then we find out oh hey whats this... activision already has another grunt company working on "Black Ops" you are all a victim of being hustled. they could careless about long term support just the profit they take from their latest meal ticket. mw2 is crap, everything about it is crap, if you actually compared it to other shooters it offers nothing new or original, you like it cuz you're told to like it. robots.

Avatar image for jwzy13

lmao fat princess: fistful of cake

Avatar image for monson21502

@OmegaGear, not sure why you or others knock ppl wanting this map pack. mw2 is my most played ps3 game. i dont care about all that in house trouble they had. they made a game i like. so im gonna buy the extras for it.

Avatar image for monson21502

@darth nater307. nothing this gen can hold up to halo reach. just the beta pretty much beats the games out so far this year.

Avatar image for Darth_Nater307

Compared to the "Halo: Reach" beta, nothing else just doesn't hold up, especially the MW2 map pack. Darn you to heck, Activision.

Avatar image for OmegaGear

"ill buy the mw2 map pack for ps3 after the reach beta is over." After everything that's happened, People still support Activision and its butchering of IW's hard work.
