Shippin' Out May 15-21: L.A. Noire, Fable III PC, New Vegas DLC

New release slate led by Rockstar's period detective thriller, Lionhead's action role-playing game, and new downloadable content for Obsidian's game.

It's a busy week at retail, as a range of new high-profile releases drop this week, including Rockstar Games' long-awaited period detective game and the PC version of Lionhead's third Fable entry.

Leading the pack this week is Team Bondi's L.A. Noire for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The title follows Detective Phelps as he becomes entangled in a violent web of vice, corruption, and crime in 1940s Los Angeles. Players jump into the seedy underworld of the metropolis and are tasked with solving a series of murders in what Rockstar describes as an "open-ended challenge."

Rockstar lets gamers solve the case this Tuesday in L.A. Noire.

Also debuting this Tuesday is Fable III for the PC. The game follows the well-reviewed Xbox 360 version, having been delayed last summer. While PC gamers have had to wait months to play the game, the time has afforded Lionhead the ability to do something it has never done with a Fable game: add difficulty levels and stereoscopic 3D support. Fable III for the PC will ship with an exclusive Hardcore mode, which raises the game's difficulty.

Gamers looking to add to their copies of Obsidian Entertainment's Fallout: New Vegas can grab the Honest Hearts downloadable content for the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game on Tuesday. The DLC was announced with an arrival date of May 17 for the PlayStation 3, but as of press time, the PlayStation Network remains offline.

As for the content, the $10 add-on takes place in Utah's Zion National Park and sees gamers leading an expedition that is swamped by a roving tribal war party. Players are then charged with escaping to the Mojave, battling the belligerent nomads in the process.

Also dropping this week is the PC role-playing game The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The dark fantasy game will be available on Tuesday in both a $50 Premium Edition and a $130 Collector's Edition.

The Witcher 2 is a direct sequel to the events of the 1.5-million-unit-selling original and picks back up with professional monster slayer Geralt following a failed assassination of Temerian royalty. Geralt then sets out on a quest to track down the king's attempted killers, while also continuing to pursue those responsible for murdering other witchers.

For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

@Apofis_SG-1 What have you played, like 3 or 4 games? There are some errors like slow loading bridges, and a couple of framerate hiccups, I'll give you that, but aren't you a bit exaggerating much?

Avatar image for Apofis_SG-1

@x-2tha-z Well graphics bugs mosly. Like driving across the bridge and bridge just disappeared. And something like that. After some patches its fixed, but still having little bugs with textures. And the game runs pretty well for me. Not perfectly, but good enough. And of course if you have Nasa-like PC you cant see problems with optimisation. I dont have that kind of computer :D

@Apofis_SG-1 What bugs have you encountered? I haven't encountered any. As for optimisation, I can't comment on everyone's rigs but it runs perfectly on mine. If you're having problems, perhaps it's time to upgrade?

Avatar image for Apofis_SG-1

@x-2tha-z It was (and still is) very very buggy. In fact its most bugged game i ever played and optimization is terrible. They can do better than that. At lest they trying to fix that.

@x-2tha-z I second this (well, maybe not the 2nd part of it), even though I have a slower machine (4-5 years...shortly before Vista came out and Dell was doing the upgrade program). Anyway, weren't we supposed to have a Fable III PC demo by now?

@Apofis_SG-1 Why was GTAIV a lame port? It runs perfectly on my rig, which is now two years old. It looks better and runs better than the 360 version so I don't see why it's a lame port. See, it's talk like this which is probably why R* didn't make a PC version of RDR and why they probably won't make a PC version of L.A Noire, either.

HOLY DUNG....i go see the reviews on WItcher 2 and i see 10,10,10,10,10,10,10....

Avatar image for Apofis_SG-1

Yeah i hope that to but thats a fat chance. And yeah GTA 4 was lame port with lame multiplayer (i expected more). I still cant forgive myself after spending my money on that thing so better no L.A. Noire for PC than lame port like GTA 4.

@Max_Payne2011 Me too, but if it's as bad as GTA 4 was, i'm not going anywhere near it, that was a horrible port.

@Skargamer, not a lot of hype?? You're using the wrong smily for being sarcastic! If you aren't being sarcastic, look up the THREE launch trailers! They are fantastic!

Avatar image for Mantiskilla007

Hmm, they didn't bother to list that Deathsmiles II is coming out this on XBL Games on Demand this week.

Avatar image for thedirtyleg

So excited for the Witcher 2! I wish Hardcore difficulty was on Fable 3 for 360 when I played it then. It was pretty easy imo.

Avatar image for nickythenewt21

Why the hell do they mention Fallout DLC in the title but not Witcher 2?! For shame, GameSpot! Also, definitely checking out Witcher 2 and LA Noire. Should be an awesome week for games.

The Witcher 2 :)

Avatar image for Fandango_Letho

For some reason, the title of this article mentions Fable 3 for PC, but not Witcher 2, which is deep down a couple of paragraph bellow. For real? You think people want to know that Fable 3 will be released for PC better than Witcher 2? Odd choice.

Avatar image for Xfighterleader

Does no one here other than me want Honest Hearts?

Avatar image for Skargamer

it releases tomorrow! :D Can't wait! :) Witcher 2 as well? Wow, not a lot of hype around it eh? :( I liked the first game quite a bit...

Just ordered LA Noire online. Looking to be a good, differently paced cinegame. Can't wait to immerse myself in it! =D

Avatar image for KayHangman

Looking forward to both of the very different L.A. Noire and The Witcher 2 this week. TW2 is prepped and pre-loaded so it'll be first up. I doubt either of these games will disappoint.
