Shaun Alexander Fronts NCAA Football 2001

Electronic Arts has announced that it has signed former University of Alabama running back Shaun Alexander as the spokesperson for EA Sports' NCAA Football 2001. In this April's NFL draft, Alexander was the 19th pick overall by the Seattle Seahawks. While at Alabama, Alexander rushed for a total of 3,726 yards and graduated as the school's all-time leading rusher. He was also a nominee for the prestigious Doak Walker Award -- given to the best NCAA running back in the country -- in his final college season. As part of the sponsorship, Alexander will appear on the packaging and in advertising campaigns for NCAA Football 2001. Additionally, he will lend his football knowledge for use in the game's development.

"It's really exciting to be part of NCAA Football 2001," said Alexander. "As a boy growing up you always dream about being in a video game, but to be on the cover is a whole other thing. I am excited to work with EA Sports and to be associated with the best college football game going."

"We are very excited to be working with a player and a person of Shaun's caliber," said Chip Lange, EA's vice president of North American marketing. "The image of a back from Alabama in that crimson uniform is what college football is all about and a perfect fit for our game."

NCAA Football 2001 will be released with licenses from the FedEx Orange Bowl, the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, and the Nokia Sugar Bowl. It also lets players compete for the national championship in the Orange Bowl. NCAA Football 2001 from EA Sports will be released just prior to the launch of the 2000/2001 NCAA season.
