Severed Body Parts Are Front And Center In Season 2 Announcement Video For This Netflix Show

The Santa Clarita Diet Season 2 premieres in 2018.

Netflix announced today that it has renewed The Santa Clarita Diet, a show in which Drew Barrymore plays a zombie of sorts who eats other humans. Season 2 will air in 2018.

The renewal announcement for the bizarre show comes in a fittingly strange way. The video below, captioned "Ready for seconds?" shows the number 2 being formed with body parts such as fingers and an eyeball. The happy music that plays over it is a nice, creepy touch.

The Santa Clarita Diet premiered on Netflix in February. Netflix does not announce viewership figures for any of its shows, so we don't know how wide of an audience it reached.

Barrymore plays Sheila Hammond, who, along with her husband Joel (Timothy Olyphant), struggles to find happiness in her life as a real estate agent. In Season 1, she suddenly starts to enjoy the taste of human flesh. Her life improves in many ways because of this. She doesn't want to go back to the way things were, so, along with her family, she finds people to kill and eat, all while concealing her true identity as some kind of zombie/cannibal person.

The series also features Patton Oswalt, Nathan Fillion, and Andy Richter, though we don't know anything yet about the story or potential new cast members for the second season. Netflix did, however, confirm that production on Season 2 will begin this summer.
