Long before The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Sonic the Hedgehog were cleaning up at the box office, Resident Evil and Final Fantasy were raising the bar for video game movies. Sure, said bar may not have been raised much--or at all in some cases--but at least these films weren't a repeat of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. If you've been looking to add a few of these rough gems to your movie collection, you can grab quite a few of them at a big discount at Amazon.

Starting off the list, several Final Fantasy films have been marked down substantially. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was a groundbreaking movie at the time of its release, an astonishing showcase of computer-generated animation that was unlike anything else seen at the time. At its core, the film is also an underrated tale of death and grief, mixed with sci-fi action and a stirring score.

Then there's Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, a direct sequel to Final Fantasy VII that follows Cloud and his crew as they investigate a strange blight that has spread across Midgar. As if an apocalyptic plague wasn't bad enough, remnants of Sephiroth's spirit have manifested and are working toward resurrecting the infamous villain by using the extraterrestrial remains of Jenova. Yes, it's weird, but at least there's a banger of a showdown near the end capped off by incredible action and guitar solos.

It's worth noting that this is also the "complete" cut of Advent Children that contains 26 minutes of additional footage and over 1,000 revised scenes, all remastered in 4K. Lastly, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV is an action-packed film that's an essential part of the game. The events in this movie were briefly referenced in Final Fantasy XV, as the tale of Nyx and his fellow soldiers rallying to stop the Niflheim invasion of Lucis is visually impressive and explosive in its execution.

On the Resident Evil side, fans of the Capcom survival-horror series are in for a treat. Damnation, Degeneration, and Vendetta have all been bundled into one gory collection, and while these films weren't designed to win several Annie awards, they're still fun dives into the world of biological warfare. There are a few mem-worthy moments between them, and they make for some fun viewing on a cold night.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is a solid mini-series set between the events of the fourth and fifth games in the mainline series, focusing on Leon Kennedy as he defends the White House from a zombie outbreak--top that, Gerard Butler--while Claire Redfield works on her own investigation. Lastly, the recent release of Resident Evil: Death Island is already substantially discounted and is basically the Avengers of the animated film series.

Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield, and Rebeccah Chambers all appear in the film, eventually leading to a giant showdown on Alcatraz Island between the Resident Evil heroes and a mysterious antagonist. Like the Final Fantasy films, these are all 4K Blu-rays that come with several extras.
