Sega serves up PSP Virtua Tennis

Become the king or queen of the courts in the first tennis game for Sony's handheld; World Tour now shipping to retailers.

Until now, the only tennis on the PSP came in the form of video clips of televised matches downloaded to the system, or perhaps a segment from John McEnroe's short-lived CNBC talk show The McEnroe Show. Clearly this was unacceptable for fans of tennis games.

Today the PSP gets its first taste of tennis proper, as Sega has shipped Virtua Tennis: World Tour to retailers nationwide. World Tour features 14 international tennis pros, including Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, and Venus Williams, as well as a make-your-own-player mode, a variety of court surfaces, minigames, and a wireless multiplayer mode for up to four players.

The game was developed by UK-based Sumo Digital, which also assisted in the development of Out Run 2 and Broken Sword 3. Virtua Tennis: World Tour is rated E for Everyone and retails for $39.95. Check back soon for GameSpot's full review.
