Last year, former EA Los Angeles studio head Neil Young departed his post at the top of EA's experimental label EA Blueprint to cofound iPhone development-oriented studio Ngmoco. Today, Ngmoco announced the arrival of one more industry heavyweight, saying former Sega of America president and chief operating officer Simon Jeffery has been named as the studio's new chief publishing officer.

Jeffery is a 22-year industry veteran, having served for more than four years atop Sega's North American division. Prior to Sega, Jeffery served as president and COO of LucasArts from 1998 to 2003. Jeffery has also served in a variety of marketing, business, and development roles at Virgin Interactive and Electronic Arts. Sega had not responded to requests for comment concerning Jeffery's departure as of press time.

At Ngmoco, Jeffery's specific duties will be to head up the company's newly formed Plus+ Publishing group. Not unlike EA's Partners initiative, the Plus+ group extends Ngmoco's publishing reach to other iPhone and mobile developers. Through the arrangement, Ngmoco also extends to its partners the upcoming Plus+ Network framework, which functions as a social networking platform for mobile games.

Ngmoco expects to announce additional details on the Plus+ Network throughout the summer leading up to the platform's launch.
