Sega Makes Rangers Official

Sonic Team's next game gets an official announcement from Sega of America.

Sega of America officially announced Burning Rangers for the US market. The latest game from Sonic Team and Yuji Naka, Burning Rangers will be available in the spring of '98 - with a March release likely - only for the Sega Saturn.

Players become one of the Burning Rangers, an elite team of rescue professionals who are sent out to rescue innocent lives from the most dangerous and life-threatening situations known to man. The game features fully explorable 3D worlds, with detailed environments.

The game has two kinds of jumps: a player-controlled jump and an auto-jump feature that aids players automatically. Each time the game is played, obstacles and survivors change positions, making the game challenging every time.

Sega says that the game utilizes the Saturn's built-in VDP2 graphics chip, which allows the flames present in the game to have a transparent look. The fire in the game is also a "living" obstacle - that is, unpredictable. The game also has a voice navigation system, which gives audio clues to where the player should be heading. In addition, each character is voiced by a real actor, advancing the realism of the game.
