Naughty Dog has unveiled a new multiplayer mode for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End called Plunder. The game type will be playable at PAX East, which is being held in Boston this weekend.

Those that played the multiplayer for Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3 will be familiar with what's involved, but for those who didn't here's the details, as explained by lead game designer Robert Cogburn.

"Plunder is a Capture the Flag type game mode but with an Uncharted twist--you can throw the idol (AKA flag)," he said on the PlayStation Blog. "Great teamwork is key to winning the match as you’re tasked with finding the idol on the map and bringing it to your home treasure chest.

"For those familiar with the classic Plunder game type, we've made a few updates. In previous Uncharted games, people carrying the idol could not traverse with it; we removed this constraint. Also, Plunder has been a five-on-five experience in the past; we changed that to four vs. four.

"No doubt this may cause shortness of breath for fans of the mode, but worry not! Given the number of mechanics that have been introduced into our multiplayer’s moment-to-moment gameplay, Plunder at four vs. four is perfect and we hope fans that experience this mode at PAX East feel the same."

If you're not at PAX, don't worry; Plunder will also be playable across three maps in the upcoming Uncharted 4 Beta and Multiplayer Stress Test. The three maps are Island, Madagascar City, and Rooftops.

Sony has also released a few new screenshots for the mode. Take a look below.

Uncharted 4 is due to launch on May 10 for PlayStation 4. As previously suggested, it's the final Uncharted game that Naughty Dog plans to make, but not necessarily the last game in the series. In fact, creative director Neil Druckmann said he would be happy to see another studio make Uncharted 5.
