See Ultra Street Fighter 2's First-Person Mode On Nintendo Switch

The Way of the Hado looks tiring.

25 Comments

Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, the Nintendo Switch version of Capcom's classic fighting game, will feature a first-person mode that utilises the console's Joy-Con controllers. Video footage of the mode has appeared online, showing off how it's played.

The mode was shown during a Japanese Capcom TV stream and seems to be called "Way of the Hado." It functions pretty much as you'd imagine, with players holding a Joy-Con in each hand, then thrusting their hands out to throw fireballs at enemies that appear on screen.

Using an uppercut motion it's possible to execute a Shoryuken and swiping both hands laterally executes a Tatsumaki Senpukyaku. The goal is to keep knocking out the enemies for as long as possible and build up a high score. Players are awarded points based on clear times and combos.

Although Ultra Street Fighter II for Switch is a 2D sprite-based game, Way of the Hado is 3D and uses assets from Street Fighter IV. Capcom released a version of Street Fighter IV for 3DS and included an over-the-shoulder perspective option.

It's yet to be seen if there's depth beyond this but the mode does have overweight versions of M. Bision to pummel, which is an excellent addition if you ask me. You can see the mode in the video above by skipping to the 2:56:45 mark.

Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers is set for release on Nintendo Switch in 2017.

The control and gameplay looks crappy and awful at best. Why are the mbisons just standing there? Pretty stupid mode that doesn't look like it's much fun.

@casshan01:

The Wii U sold more than the Dead ps Vita, and also has more exclusives and better rated games :-) Nice try though!

@xdragon8878: Your speaking of the hand held market which no one cares about except soccer moms trying to please their 6 year olds and keep them occupied in the back seat or while they are out in the department store. In the REAL market that matters (console vs console), Nintendo has been behind for years. I dont consider the wii a success, because only did well by playing the market of overweight people who need to exercise. Nice fad, but died out quickly and now everyone's wii pad is collecting dust with all their other exercise equipment. What you young gamers fail to realize is that the generation before you MADE nintendo, not you tech punks. Nintendo did everyone wrong by not growing up with the generation that made it an Icon. Therefore they are now suffering the consequences. They need to accept their fate. They need to go the way of Sega and sell their properties to other consoles. Maybe then people would respect them again. If not, they can die out with their lame gimmick consoles and stupid kiddie games like splatoon.

@casshan01:

"Handhelds no one cares about "

I Stopped reading after that! With DS being the best selling gaming device ever, and out of all Nintendo Handhelds combined, that's over Billions sold! So enjoy your lame mobile games! LOL Oh wait, did I mention Nintendo has the best sold games on the mobile market right now :-D

Keep hating you fools, but please educate yourself before hating!

@casshan01: You sir, don't know what Nintendo is about. First of all, Splatoon is great, it's incredibly fun and addicting. And what do you mean by grow-up? Pretty much all the games on PS4 and Xbone, while they look great graphically, and run smooth mostly, they tend to get really boring really fast. And I'm not a Nintendo Fanboy, nor do I pledge allegiance to any company. I actually own all consoles right now. Xbone collects dust, PS4 I play but I am finding the "fun" factor is not that great. And the Wii U I only just retired because the switch is about to come out. You don't have to agree but Nintendo games are freakin fun. Yes most of them are colorful, and cartoonish, but what the heck is wrong with that? The gameplay is fun as heck. And really that is what matters is how much fun you are having. I like games from all consoles, and really there's no need to bash one company or the other, they each have their strong points. To me you just sound like a bitter gamer.

@phantomdreamon: You say Im bitter, yet you let the innovative ONE collect dust over the PS4, which is just a PS3 on steroids, nothing innovative about it. So its sounds like you are kind of a fan boy even though you wont admit it. I will agree their game library is a bit better, but the PS3 was behind the 360 for ALL of its lifespan and that didnt stop it. XOne will be equal at some point, especially with Scorpio on the Horizon. The SNES was fun, Wii U and everything else is just sad.

@casshan01: lol, how does owning an xbox one make me bitter? Innovative? Please. The kinnect worked like 30% of the time, so many times I had to repeat myself for it to turn on or off, I just disconnected the thing. And I don't use it now, cuz there's just not any games on it that call my attention right now. I don't hate it, I'm not going to talk trash about it like most people talk about Nintendo. So you just don't like the games, fine, wonderful, who cares, that doesn't make it garbage. Like I said before, I like games from all consoles. That's why I own all of them. Now if you want to call something "innovative" then you are speaking of Nintendo. NOT making the same machine as the other company is what makes it innovative. And yes I stick to my comment about you being a bitter gamer. And from your comments I also can determine that you are a hardcore Xbox fanboy, So it's hard to reason with someone like that

Well, that looks like it works about as well as most other motion-controlled fighters, which is to say that it doesn't.

Glad they're actually developing things for the hardware. It may seem like an short term experience in this case, but the more they develop things for the hardware capabilities, the better experiences we'll get.

At least they are utilizing some of the Switch’s features with this add on to the main game but I have a pretty good feeling that those out there who are fans of the series, such as myself, will not care much at all for this “gimmick.”

As a young ninja back in the day (practicing all those hadoukens and shoryukens.) the thought of something like this would have been a welcome addition but now I have a sneaking suspicion it would be nothing more than a “5 minute play-through then never again” type thing.

It’s not really a surprise I guess. After all, you can tell it’s just a quick “slap on” mode that more than likely has no real substance or challenge. Its sole purpose is more than likely just to showcase the Switch’s “extra” abilities.

Still better than nothing I guess, lol.

First-person Hado! It needs some fixing with the responsiveness though. You can tell theyre new to it.
