See Rise of the Tomb Raider's PS4 Pro Upgrades
Crystal Dynamics discusses all the new features enabled by PS4 Pro's extra power.
Rise of the Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics has released a video showcasing some of the improvements to the game enabled for PlayStation 4 Pro. The video features chief technology officer Gary Snethen discussing the changes, but to see them in action you'll need to be on a 4K display with the YouTube display settings at 2160p.
As detailed in the video (above), Rise of the Tomb Raider will have three visual modes for the PS4 Pro. The 4K Visuals displays the game at the highest resolution, while limiting frame rate to 30 FPS. High Frame Rate mode supports 60 FPS and 1080p, providing "smoother and more fluid animation while exploring, and tighter controls during combat.
Finally, the Enriched Visuals mode renders at 1080p and 30 FPS, but uses the extra power on "both new and existing rendering features to improve overall image quality." You can learn about the various visual improvements in more detail in the video.
Rise of the Tomb Raider initially launched as an Xbox exclusive. It was released on PS4 in September in the form of the 20 Year Celebration Edition.
A sequel to the game, which has previously been hinted at but not officially announced, may be called "Shadow of the Tomb Raider." This is based on a Reddit user that noticed a commuter working on a PowerPoint presentation for the game, but has been backed up by other sources.
Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro console launches on November 10. Best Buy will let people try the console for themselves this coming Saturday, November 5, from 1-5 PM. Go to Best Buy's website to find out if a store near you is participating.
