Ben Affleck's Batman isn't the only version of the Caped Crusader heading to cinemas. While the live-action Batman will feature in this week's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, his Lego counterpart will follow in his own movie in early 2017. Now the first images from The Lego Batman Movie have been released--check them out in the gallery below, via USA Today:

The film is produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed 2014's The Lego Movie, in which Lego Batman made his first movie appearance. Bruce Wayne is played once more by Arrested Development star Will Arnett, with Ralph Fiennes providing the voice of Wayne's faithful butler Alfred. The film also features Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Michael Cera as Robin, Zach Galifianakis as The Joker, and Mariah Carey as, er, the mayor of Gotham.

The Lego Batman Movie is directed by Chris McKay, who worked as animation director on The Lego Movie. Speaking to USA Today, McKay discussed taking a supporting character from that earlier film and spinning him out to his own feature. "We thought if we can tell a well-rounded, funny story that's action-packed, we can build a big movie around this character," he said. "This is the movie we would want to see."

"Batman is an island unto himself, the only thing he doesn't have is relationships. We're making About a Boy as directed by Michael Mann."

The Lego Batman Movie will arrive in cinemas on February 10, 2017
