See Gears Of War 3 Running On PS3 In Leaked Video

The Gears of War franchise is synonymous with Xbox. Even before Microsoft acquired the franchise, the series was exclusive to Xbox. The game began as a console exclusive to Xbox and has remained that way ever since. So it was an interesting piece of news recently when footage of 2011's Gears of War 3 running on PlayStation 3 was published online.

Epic Games has now confirmed that the studio never had any plans to release Gears of War 3 on Sony's console. The footage is derived from tests that Epic conducted for Unreal Engine 3.

"This footage is a byproduct of Epic's internal Unreal Engine 3 testing process, which utilized both Gears and Unreal Tournament, and was never part of any actual product work for PS3," Epic told Kotaku.

The latest mainline Gears game, Gears 5, was released in September 2019 for Xbox One and PC. Developer The Coalition is bringing the game to Xbox Series X as a launch title, featuring frame rates up to 120FPS. Outside of the main series, the XCOM-style strategy game Gears Tactics debuted in April.
