See Dying Light's New "Nightmare" Difficulty Mode in Action

"We're trying to bring the Dying Light experience closer and closer to the feeling of a real apocalypse survival experience."

Techland has posted a new trailer for Dying Light's upcoming Enhanced Edition, this one focusing on the zombie game's brutal-looking Nightmare difficulty setting. This option not only increases enemy difficulty above the existing Hard mode, but it also restricts the use of Easter Egg weapons and adds XP penalties for dying, among other things.

According to producer Tymon Skektala, Nightmare is aimed to people looking for a "really challenging and immersive experience." It takes everything that was already tough in Hard mode (longer nights, more challenging enemies, fewer HUD options, etc.) and "twists it even more."

"We're trying to bring the Dying Light experience closer and closer to the feeling of a real apocalypse survival experience where every move you make can really determine if you live or die," Smektala said.

Should you take on the challenge and succeed, you'll earn XP faster (even moreso when playing co-op) and increase the chance of finding gold-tier weapons, Techland explained.

Nightmare mode is included with Dying Light's Enhanced Edition, which arrives February 9 across PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. That's the same date that expansion The Following arrives; it's included with the Enhanced Edition and will also be sold separately.

GameSpot recently played The Following. You can see new footage and hear our thoughts in this video.
