See Doom Running on Nvidia's GTX 1080, Reaches 200FPS

Doom launches next week.

On Friday night, Nvidia announced the GeForce GTX 1080, its newest and most powerful GPU. Now, as part of the announcement event, id Software developers demonstrated the soon-to-launch Doom running on the ultra-powerful graphics card--and the results are impressive.

Take a look:

PC Gamer shot this video of the demonstration, and explained that the game was running using the Vulkan API. As you can see, at the start of the video, Doom runs at 1080p/60FPS, but after V-Sync is disabled, frame rate jumps to 120-200FPS. Note that 1080p was the limit of the monitor.

"id says there are still a few graphical glitches they're working to fix, specifically when the game hits 200 FPS," PC Gamer said. "Apparently there are some bugs in the game engine at 200FPS that they 'weren't able to detect until they had the performance of the GTX 1080.'"

Doom is scheduled to launch on PC, as well as Xbox One and PlayStation 4, on May 13. For more on the game, check out all of GameSpot's previous coverage.

As for the GTX 1080 card, the $600 card comes out at the end of the month. Check out GameSpot's breakdown report of the card here to learn more.

Good. This gives studios more headspace so that they can push their technology. This might be the first time that a GPU will run Crysis 4 that is already out.

Not at all impressed by a 4k gaming card running high framerates at only 1080p. No one will be gaming at just 1080p with this.

@Chernnunos: I've seen other high level scientists on here claiming the human eye can't see past 720p xbox resolution. I feel so inferior amongst the brilliance that surrounds me here.

Did anyone actually watch the video? The only time I saw the FPS spike into the 200's (maybe 1/4 second total time) was when the player had his face plastered into the wall as he was going into the vent... You might as well just brag about how many FPS you're getting at the title screen.

People here ragging on the card getting 200fps being overkill are super funny, you want them to go back to the drawing board and come up with a way to make it slower for you? Shut your noob faces

There will always be newer/better video cards and there will always be games that can make them seem slow. Theres no such thing as an overkill graphics card. Just because one game runs at 200fps in a map the size of a classroom doesn't mean all games will run at 200fps. Its not like a static number.

The 200fps is just a way to show off how powerful the video card is, kind of like a score. You want it to be lower? Or are you just looking for a chance to sound smart any desperate opportunity possible by saying you don't get a benefit of over 60fps. So many people write the same thing i wonder if some of you are stupid or perhaps soulless AI.

Plus framerate isnt just a power number, it reflects how well the video processing tech is, at 200fps you have ultra low frametimes so its not all pointless.

Keep making video cards BETTER don't listen to these nub plebs

@dannydouble: It's not that it's just cards at this level should be tested in 1440p and 4k not 1080p . If they say it's faster than Titan X then people already know it's going to be blazingly fast in 1080p. Plus devs said 1080 was 200 fps in Doom so they should concentrate on higher resolutions for bench testing. What worries me is the reason they are not showing much above 1080p is it's low bandwidth. 1080 will fair better there than 1070 due to using better memory.

Also these graphic cards are not selling like they use to.Sales are at a 10 year low.I assure the guys that make these games want those PS4 sales first and foremost then XB1.Its very hard to find accurate sales numbers on individual cards like the 980ti,Titan x which I assure you don't come close to console sales combined.Best console by CyberPower PC with 980ti or Titan x is 1500 -2000 just a little more than console.I don't want to hear well just build it yourself.

@fedor: show me Fedor that they are selling at a record pace?Home pc's as a whole are at really low sales so right there would be less graphic cards.Tell me how many Titan X have sold, hard to find. But you can find Nvidia and Radeon card sales as a whole and they are well below what sales were 10 years ago. Please show me a link or where to find sales are at all time high?

@jkittleson: home PC's have nothing to do with GPUs. People who buy GPUs build them. And who cares about the Titan x? It was a $1200 card, a 980ti was 600 less with nearly identical power. How about this, chief, find me one article that says GPU sales are at a ten year low, I'll wait.

Oh and here's a link to strong gpu sales last quarter

http://www.anandtech.com/show/9500/nvidia-fy-2016-q2-results

I eagerly await your response.

@fedor: you do know graphic cards are different than gpu's.Are you dense? Saying people build gpu's which are pretty much in everything.Your a dirtbag having me click on spam.Question do you think gpu's are the same as a graphic card. Also, people only build their own gaming pc?

@fedor: I was giving you the benefit until I saw that stupid article. Some people will call graphic cards, gpu. But in relation to the article a gpu used can be found in cell phones, consoles, tablets, etc. Damn bro a overclocked 980ti will be up there or better than Titan X,,but overclock that Titan X that a different tune. You would shit if you saw my pc.4k curved ultra wide monitor.I don't think mom will buy you my system or a 1080 when they come out.

@jkittleson: "What is driving growth right now is its GPU business. Revenue for GeForce GPUs grew 51%, and NVIDIA has continued to see strength in the PC gaming sector. Fueled by the release of the GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti"

What was that? Did you even read the article? Of course you didn't. Now stfu and stop trying to lie in the Internet, pleb.

Oh and once again, a Titan x is $500 more than a 980ti for nearly equal performance, that's why people go with it instead of the Titan, you mook. Keep taking L's.

I've noticed that Nvidia will release a new card every 6 months to a year. The 1080ti will be out 6 months after the release of 1080.Nvidia knows they have fan boys that will eat them up.With that said Pc has always been more powerful hardware but just can't break into mainstream as the steam machines were failures.Until they make games that specifically run on these cards all your gonna get is poorly ported games for your high powered pc.These companies make games first for console and then as an afterthought ported to pc.

@jkittleson: It should be a beast too when you consider the 1080 Gigabyte cards being released could be clocked at over 2ghz . Releasing in June apparently. I can definitely hold out for a wider bus stronger version of the 1080. It will be enough to last years at 1440p. Just happy enough with 980ti for now. These cards are just for early adopters. At least wait until June and get the gaming editions with better coolers standard and better binned cards.

I'm ready to get rid of my 2gb GTX 960 in favor of a 4gb 980. Now that this card is coming out hopefully the price of the 980 goes down some.

@deusvex: Really, the 980 is not a good buy and never was in terms of price / performance. You'd be much better off going for the 1070 as it will perform much better for a similar price. On top of that, the latter comes with 8 GB of GDDR5.
