Now Playing: Secret of Mana Collection - Nintendo Switch Japanese Trailer

The Secret of Mana series is coming to Nintendo Switch in Japan. Square Enix released a brand new trailer today and announced it will release the Seiken Densetsu Collection on June 1.

The collection includes Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2 in Japan) along with its prequel, Final Fantasy Adventure (Mystic Quest in Europe), and sequel Seiken Densetsu 3.

No Caption Provided

The announcement comes one day after the game's official Japanese Twitter account posted a teaser video of Seiken Densetsu 3 being played on a Nintendo Switch. Unlike the two earlier games, Seiken Densetsu 3 was never released outside of Japan.

All three games will be on one game card and also available through the eShop, and will cost 4,800 yen (approximately US $43 / £34 / AU $56).

There are a few new features, according to Gematsu: quick-save will allow you to save at any time during gameplay, and a music mode will allow you to listen to music from any of the three games from the home screen.

No Caption Provided

A special screen-change mode will also allow you to change between several screen sizes when playing Final Fantasy Adventure (originally released on Game Boy in 1991 as a spinoff of the Final Fantasy series).

There's no word on whether the series will be getting an English-language release, but thanks to Switch's region-free settings you will be able to access the games in the eShop and play the Secret of Mana series in Japanese from anywhere in the world.

Nerd rant, but this is not a trilogy. There are 7 main games. Chronologically by game world, the first game is Dawn of Mana, a PS2 game, and the last is Legend of Mana (PSone).

Secret of Mana was a great game, loved it.

Localize it for the US and you can bet I'll vote with my wallet.

The Nintendo switch does need games but dam. Developers wonder why they are losing sales and not hitting goals and it's because they keep shoving the same old shit down our throats! I don't give a **** what Nintendo says the switch is a portable. Some of the games that would normally cost 30$ on a 3ds or ps vita. now cost 40$ Don't get me wrong I love my switch but it's not looking so good with all these ports and before you bitch ass fanboys come in here and talk shit it's my opinion if you feel another way we can agree to disagree.

I sincerely hope they release these in the US as well. I loved playing them as a kid.

Nintendo has a golden opportunity to finally bring the third game to the US as part of trilogy...

I'll just add that to my list along side Mother 3 and flying pigs.

Seiken Densestu 3 is my favorite Action Adventure JRPG of all time. And I had to play it translated on pc. DEJAP team was the real MVP. This collection better make it to the states or I'm going to be so pissed.

The only way to immerse yourself in the Secret of Mana is in Japanese.

@computernoises: Are you from the US, and are you sure that you're not mixing the title up with Final Fantasy Mystic Quest on the SNES?

Avatar image for NaturallyEvil

@drumjod: I didn't know that. Then what was the US Mystic Quest on SNES called in Europe?

@NaturallyEvil: Mystic Quest Legend according to wikipedia.

I was hoping for a remake. Not a AAA remake, but something on the level of I Am Setsuna in terms of graphics. Or even Bravely Default.

@lostn: Don't have a DS but have a Switch, since they seem to be going retro I wish I get the game on the Switch.

And Nintendo keeps making $$$ off old content. How many years can they get away with this before people realize they're a bunch of suckers.

@SilentAssassin: PSNow and XboxOne backwards compatibility says hi.

@fig56: that's what the fans wanted. The ps now is bullshit but Xbox backwards compatibility is dope.

@BankAMG: Xbox backwards compatibility is pretty awesome. But if you don't have any of those games already you have to pay for them. Which is where MS makes their money.

It's not going to stop any time soon.

The world needs a localized Seiken 3. Square, what the hell is wrong with you?

Avatar image for lostn

@Thanatos2k: The world has one, if you don't mind that it's not an official translation. It's a very good translation though, better than most of the official work during that era.

@lostn: Yeah I played that unofficial translation in 1998. The lack of an official version is indefensible from Square.

Feels like an incredibly lazy "collection" when they easily could have added Sword of Mana (GBA) and Legend of Mana (PS1) that would not have taken up much space. Could also have added Dawn of Mana (PS2) and Adventures of Mana (Vita). I can see them skipping the two DS games as they would be tricky to play on a non-dual screen console.

But for $45 I'd expect more than just lazy ports, especially for the first game which has had two separate remakes.

already pre-ordered it, and hope for a localization for it also. These are great classic JRPG games

They didn't localize it back in the day... ppl asking for it now is prayng for a miracle...

@everson_rm: The original was localized. Not too outrageous to ask for an English dub on the other two.

Localize this shit pronto!

Then take my money!!!
