Sea Of Thieves Servers Going Down For Maintenance Tomorrow

Players will be stranded for a few hours on March 24.

Microsoft's anticipated pirate adventure Sea of Thieves finally released for Xbox One and PC this week, although like many online multiplayer games when they just launch, its first few days have been beset by a number of technical issues. Developer Rare will perform server maintenance tomorrow, March 24, which will render the game unplayable for a period of time.

Maintenance begins at 2 AM PT / 5 AM ET / 9 AM GMT and is scheduled to run for approximately five hours, concluding at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET / 2 PM GMT. During this period of time, Rare says the game's servers will be offline, so you won't be able to play Sea of Thieves at all, as it requires an internet connection even if you're adventuring solo.

Now Playing: Sea Of Thieves Launch Livestream

This maintenance period shouldn't affect most players in the US given how early it will occur in the morning, but players in Europe will find themselves unable to play the game for quite a while. Another round of maintenance is also scheduled to follow early next week, on March 27. It will likewise begin at 2 AM PT / 5 AM ET / 9 AM GMT and run until 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET / 2 PM GMT.

Since its launch, many players have been experiencing a number of issues when trying to play Sea of Thieves, ranging from not being able to get online to not receiving gold after completing missions. Rare acknowledged these problems and outlined its plans to resolve them in a post on the game's official website.

Installed and updated yesterday, good sized update. At least they're doing maintenance early in the morning in the off peak hours unlike D2 doing maintenance right in the middle of the afternoon.......... Haven't played yet but I'll give Rare the thumbs up on that one.

Aaaand there's your final nail in the coffin. A game in development for over 3 years, and they can't even keep dedicated servers up. Bravo.

I prefer my games to have more content.

It’s like they built a beautiful GTA city and only put 3 quests in it. The Items earned are for looks only. The game quickly becomes repetitive and boring. Not worth $60. Hard to justify $30. It feels like they built a wonderful world but forgot to put a game in it.

Pro Tip: Want to have fun with friends while not doing much? Get together IRL and watch TV. It’s just as amusing.

Why have maintenance on a weekend? Should be like a Tuesday or something, when most people aren't on. I get that it's 5am but gamers like to pull all nighters on weekends with their friends.

Only a matter of time before they go down for good. Once most of the playerbase hits the 5 hour mark.

@alexofburg: Don't bother dude. Some people want everything laid out for them in a nice linear, hand holding way. I like those games as well but I can let that go and adventure my ass off in a game like this. Different strokes and all that.

@cainetao11: We are not talking about how the game plays or offers information. But rather the lack of content. Get treasure for gold to buy skins. That's it. That's the entire game with Samy islands and samy enemies on repeat . And don't give me all that "handholding" nonsense. The game is that aimless and without story or form because they didn't have time to set all that stuff up. And so to patch it all up they conveniently passed it as intentional.

@PETERAKO: Thats main content. Ever just sail off and go diving in the game? Or just explore islands you come across? The game needs more content, I am by no means a blind supporter. I ask people that bash it What is your gamertag? How long you been playing? 90% of them never answer LOL And I didn't and will never give you anything. Don't like my answer? Eat dung for all I care.

@cainetao11: MHW... Tons of content... Great multiplayer. Not quite the same type of game but close.(Work together to beat quests/monsters, etc) Tons of end game material. Good game to model this type of game after. FFXIV is pretty well done also, for a monthly fee though.

Edit: Oops, my point was I definitely felt I have gotten my $60 worth out of both those games(a bit more was spent on FFXIV per monthly fees of course). Hopefully they don't scrap it, and maybe fix it up like Destiny 1. That ended up being decent after the 3rd DLC.

@joshrmeyer: Understood. I didn't pay $60 for SoT. Im a gamepass member now. Rainbow 6 Siege lacked at launch as well. 2 years later what are people saying about it? I think people are judging SoT like a sp game which has what it has at launch. These online games grow. We'll see.

@xhawk27: You mean together? 4 per mission. Would be crazy hectic with any more than that.
