Scribblenauts doodles out 1 million
Warner Bros. and 5TH Cell's award-winning puzzle-platformer for Nintendo's handheld achieves platinum sales; Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter hits same milestone on Wii, DS.
5TH Cell's puzzle-platformer Scribblenauts for the DS has had no shortage of critical praise heaped upon it, even before it came out. The game earned Best Original Game and Best Handheld Game as part of the post-Electronic Entertainment Expo Game Critics Awards, and it was also named Game of the Show as part of GameSpot's E3 2009 Editors' Choice Awards. Scribblenauts is also up for Best Handheld and Innovation awards as part of the 10th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards.

Now, Scribblenauts has commercial success to match its approbation. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced today that the DS game has sold more than 1 million units worldwide since its September 2009 debut.
The object of Scribblenauts is to help protagonist Maxwell acquire a star in each of 200 different levels. To do so, gamers are able to summon thousands of objects and creatures, all of which work more or less as they do in real life.
In August, 5TH Cell said that it would be shifting its focus away from the DS and toward console development following the release of Scribblenauts and Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter. (The game, which was also released on the Wii, has sold over 1 million units to date.) The Bellevue, Washington-based development house then revealed in October that it is working on a "pretty big" project for Xbox Live.
