Scream's Neve Campbell Talks About Getting Attacked By A Bear On A Movie Set

Actress Neve Campbell has shared a wild story about getting attacked by a bear on a movie set many years ago where she was dragged through the forest in a sequence gone wrong.

Speaking on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Campbell said this happened in Canada when she was 17 years old. She was playing a character who was "one with the animals," and one particular scene called for her to be chased by a bear. The crew gave Campbell a bottle of Coca-Cola to feed the bear, which created an environment where the bear was on a "sugar rush," Campbell said. She was then asked to stick her hand in a honey jar and run away as the bear chases her to complete the scene.

"They said, 'Dip your hand in honey and just run, and when you get to the tree over there, turn around and stick your hand out and feed the bear.' I of course, wanting to please everyone, was like, 'OK!,'" Campbell said.

Campbell went through with it, but the bear didn't slow down and came barreling at her--and not at her hand, as the scene was originally envisioned. "[The bear] grabs me by the leg and he pulls me through the forest. My mother happens to be visiting the set, so she's screaming," Campbell recalled. "The whole crew is frozen because no one can believe what's happening. All I could think to say was, 'He's biting me, he's biting me!' Like it wasn't obvious..."

Eventually, the "bear wrangler" on set threw enough rocks at the bear to settle the situation and save Campbell. Despite what sounds like a traumatic experience, Campbell said she asked the crew if they wanted to do another take to get the best footage.

Campbell never named the production outright, but if she was 17 at the time, this would have taken place around 1990/1991.

Campbell currently stars alongside Courteney Cox and David Arquette in the new Scream film, which releases in theaters today, January 14.
